Job description

A Snapshot of Your Day
Join us as an Internal Connection (Cleats & Leads) Design Engineer at our new Siemens Energy Power Transformers Factory in Charlotte, North Carolina. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing the design of Cleats & Leads (Internal connections) for power transformers, driving design innovations, and optimizing end products in line with Siemens Energy's design rules, quality standards, cost objectives, and timelines. As the factory is being constructed, you will focus on developing processes, refining offerings, and collaborating closely with a high-performance team to ensure we are well-prepared to meet customer needs effectively when operations commence.
How You'll Make an Impact
  • Perform mechanical design, development, and analysis of Cleats & Leads for Large Power/Auto/Generator transformers (up to 500MVA, 550kV) and their sub-assemblies and components.
  • Utilize 2D and 3D CAD software to model designs and individual parts, supporting the generation of engineering drawings and bills of material.
  • Communicate effectively among cross-functional teams and participate in various internal and external technical forums.
  • Provide support for the development of global design rules and R&D efforts as needed.
  • Collaborate with departments such as electrical design, manufacturing, quality, testing, and purchasing on technical topics related to Leads design.

What You Bring
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or a related field, with 3+ years of experience as an internal connection (Cleats and Leads) design engineer in transformer design. Candidates with more experience may be considered for a higher level and vice versa.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in preparing internal layouts, electrical clearances, magnetic distances, routing of leads inside tanks, and designing supports while coordinating lead exits with winding assembly.
  • Ability to apply electrostatic/dielectric design concepts for high voltage leads and electromagnetic concepts for high current leads.
  • Familiarity with components used in internal connections, including cables, bus-bars, HV lead exits, terminals, insulation supports, insulation papers, bushings, and tap changers.
  • Basic knowledge of special processes such as crimping and brazing.
  • Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., CREO/PROe/Inventor/UG), PDM Link/Teamcenter, 2D CAD (e.g., AutoCAD), and advanced dielectric (high voltage) FEM simulations (e.g., ELECTRO, CST Studio, Infolytica) as well as electromagnetic FEM simulations (e.g., MagNET, FEMM).
  • If not already located in Charlotte, NC, must be willing to relocate (relocation assistance may be provided).
  • Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States. Siemens Energy employees with current visa sponsorship may be eligible for internal transfers.
