Job description

Your Opportunity
At Schwab, you're empowered to make an impact. Here, innovative thought meets creative problem solving, helping us "challenge the status quo" and transform the finance industry together.
Our Corporate Credit Research (CCR) Team performs fixed income research and credit analysis in support of generating net interest revenue within the Schwab investment portfolio. CCR analysts also assess the credit and financial risk of other counterparties for Schwab, including vendors, tenants, trading counterparties, as well as other firms and individuals. As a new analyst, you will work within our research team, gaining access to a broad subset of exposures to help ensure credit quality and the maintenance of a strong balance sheet. This role encompasses significant responsibility and growth opportunities.
What you'll do:
CCR is looking for an analyst to manage an assigned portfolio of counterparty exposures and related credit responsibilities. In this role, the successful candidate will be able to understand and articulate the risks to Schwab based on the credit profile of a particular counterparty and perform fundamental credit analyses on selected issuers and affiliates for Schwab's investment portfolio. You will perform due diligence and monitoring on an existing compilation of names, assign proprietary ratings and recommendations, work with various internal Schwab groups, and assist in other credit-related duties. The successful candidate will have previous credit or financial analysis experience and be a self-starter who can quickly assume a broad range of duties. This is an individual contributor role.
In addition, the responsibilities of the analyst will include, but not be limited to:
  • Be able to analyze and communicate multiple facets of corporate credit quality, including business overview, financial health, peer comparisons, and industry outlooks
  • Articulate and support independent credit assessments through both written reports and presentations
  • Coordinate and communicate effectively with other Schwab groups, including the ability to question and challenge information when needed
  • Assign and monitor internal ratings for all counterparties within your coverage
  • Demonstrate progress in becoming a reliable expert in your assigned sectors over time
  • Monitor macroeconomic and geopolitical environments for any potential impact on our business
  • Assist the broader Corporate Credit Research Team in areas such as regulatory engagements and reporting

What you have
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required. Progress towards CFA and/or MBA preferred.
  • 1-3 years of relevant credit experience, preferably with exposure to corporate bonds, broker-dealer analysis, and vendor reviews.
  • Strong accounting knowledge, familiarity with financial statements, and financial analysis skills.
  • Passion for business and financial markets.
  • A sound and high-level understanding of global macroeconomic factors and current events.
  • Well-developed organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communications skills, both oral and written, to interact with outside analysts, business partners, and senior management at Schwab,
  • Demonstrated ability to use good judgment and to work independently.
