A transcriptionist translates conversations, presentations, or voice recordings to written form, often using dictation software. Clients may include doctors, corporate managers, schools, or anyone else who needs to document their recorded thoughts or speeches. Exceptional listening, grammar, and typing skills are required in this career. As a transcriptionist, your responsibilities and duties include listening to audio and generating a transcript of the file as quickly and accurately as possible. Some transcriptionists work as general transcriptionists, transcribing anything from voicemails to board meetings, or doing interview transcriptions. Others complete specialized training or certifications to work in specific fields, such as medical or legal transcription.
