Real Estate Investments & Transactions Associate Attorney

Direct Counsel is seeking a Real Estate Investments & Transactions Associate Attorney with 3–5 years of experience to join a leading global law firm and its highly regarded Real Estate Investments and Transactions practice.

Position Overview

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience handling sophisticated commercial real estate transactions, including joint ventures and co-investments, complex acquisitions and dispositions, and real estate debt, equity, and finance matters. The attorney will represent sophisticated private equity funds, asset managers, real estate funds, institutional investors, REITs, and investment banks on a broad range of transactional matters.

Responsibilities
  • Represent private equity funds, asset managers, real estate funds, investors, REITs, and investment banks in sophisticated real estate transactions.

  • Draft, review, and negotiate joint venture and co-investment agreements.

  • Handle complex acquisitions and dispositions of commercial real estate assets.

  • Draft, review, and negotiate purchase and sale agreements.

  • Handle real estate debt, equity, and financing transactions, including loan agreements and related financing documents.

  • Draft and negotiate ancillary agreements, including property management and development management agreements.

  • Coordinate and oversee real estate due diligence projects involving title, surveys, zoning, leasing, financing, and other related matters.

  • Work closely with partners and senior associates on complex matters while taking increasing responsibility for assigned workstreams.

  • Maintain direct client contact and provide practical, commercially focused legal advice.

  • Stay current on industry trends and developments affecting commercial real estate transactions.

  • Utilize AI and other legal technologies responsibly to enhance efficiency and client service.

Qualifications
  • 3–5 years of sophisticated commercial real estate experience at a large law firm.

  • Substantial experience with joint ventures and co-investments.

  • Experience with complex acquisitions and dispositions of real estate assets.

  • Experience with real estate debt, equity, and finance transactions.

  • Strong drafting, negotiation, research, and analytical skills.

  • Excellent attention to detail and time management abilities.

  • Excellent academic credentials.

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.

  • Admission to the New York Bar or eligibility to obtain admission promptly required.

  • Experience using AI technologies responsibly and ethically in legal practice preferred.

  • Strong interpersonal and client service skills.

Compensation

The anticipated salary range for this position is $260,000–$365,000 annually, depending on qualifications, experience, and other relevant factors.
