Description
THIS POSITION IS PER DIEM (PRN) or On -Call (As Needed)
Prepare and package pharmaceuticals as specified in a medication order or prescription under the supervision of a pharmacist.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
A Technician Trainee cannot compound prescription medications and sterile or nonsterile pharmaceuticals, counsel patients, perform final technology assisted product verification or affix a label if technology assisted verification if performed.
  • Receives and reviews prescriptions or refill requests. Retrieves the appropriate medication i.e. right drug, strength, and formulation. Identifies and communicates discrepancies and questions to a pharmacist to accurately and safely dispense the patient's medication.
  • Accurately performs pharmaceutical calculations to prepare medications.
  • Utilizes pharmacy equipment to prepare and pack medications.
  • Prepares, reconstitutes, packages and labels medications according to regulations and pharmacy policies and procedures.
  • Determines refill amount, pull, and stocks automated dispensing machines (ADC's).
  • Identifies and pulls expired medications per pharmacy policy.
  • Inventories pharmacy medications/ supplies to maintain adequate stock to dispense medications to patients.
  • Complete documentation required by regulations and pharmacy policies and procedures.
  • Maintain medication security at all times.
  • Performs medroom inspections.
  • Responds to routine inquiries from physicians, nurses and other staff within scope of practice.
  • Identify and promptly submit tickets for equipment and system issues. Communicate issue(s) to leadership/staff.
  • Participates in department orientation, training, and quality assurance programs.
  • Participates in department and hospital educational programs to maintain and advance skill and competency level; identifies and discusses performance or training needs with Supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements
  • At least 18 years of age
  • High School Diploma or the equivalent of a high school diploma
  • Current and active, unrestricted Pharmacy Technician Trainee license in Arizona
  • BLS certification within 90 days of hire
