Must be able to work between the hours below:
Off Sunday/Monday
Tuesday-Friday 10am-5pm and Saturdays 10am-2pm.
A Small Engine Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide variety of small gasoline and diesel-powered equipment. This role involves working on engines and mechanical systems used in equipment such as lawn mowers, chainsaws, leaf blowers, generators, pressure washers, snow blowers, and other small machinery such as ATV, golf cards, and other small off road machines. The mechanic inspects equipment to identify mechanical issues, performs routine maintenance services, replaces worn or damaged parts, and ensures equipment operates safely and efficiently. They use a variety of diagnostic tools, hand tools, and power tools to disassemble engines, repair components, and reassemble equipment according to manufacturer specifications.
In addition to repairs, Small Engine Mechanics perform preventative maintenance such as oil changes, spark plug replacement, carburetor cleaning, fuel system service, and air filter replacement to extend the life of equipment. They may also adjust carburetors, repair ignition systems, troubleshoot electrical components, and test engines to verify proper performance after repairs are completed. Maintaining accurate service records, documenting repairs, and ordering replacement parts are also common responsibilities.
Successful candidates typically have strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and the ability to read technical manuals and schematics. The role requires attention to detail, the ability to work independently or as part of a team, and a commitment to workplace safety. Small Engine Mechanics may work in repair shops, equipment dealerships, landscaping companies, or maintenance departments and must be comfortable lifting heavy equipment, standing for long periods, and working in environments where grease, fuel, and mechanical components are present. Experience with engine repair, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting mechanical systems is highly valued.
