Job description

Medical Laboratory Technologist (PRN)

The Medical Laboratory Technologist (PRN) position is located in the Pathology Department.

Minimum Qualifications: Possession of a current Louisiana Clinical Laboratory Scientist-Generalist or Clinical Laboratory Scientist-Specialist license plus one of the following: A bachelor's degree in medical technology or clinical laboratory science; OR A bachelor's degree in a biological, physical, or chemical science plus one year of experience as a medical technologist.

Job Duties:

  • Performs tests in the field of bacteriology which involve isolating, identifying, typing, and grouping bacteria and fungi present in body fluids, exudate, transudate, skin scrapings, autopsy, and surgical specimens.
  • Performs chemical tests and analyses of body fluids and other materials related to clinical medicine or research in the medical sciences, such as; chemical analyses of blood, urine, and spinal fluid.
  • Performs various hematological tests and examinations such as red blood cell counts, white blood cell counts, sickle cell tests, studies of red blood cell morphology, hemoglobin estimations, fragility tests, sedimentation rate, coagulation time, bleeding time, clot retraction time, and indices.
  • Prepares and examines feces and other materials for the identification of parasites and ova.
  • Performs agglutination, flocculation, complement fixation, fluorescent antibody, and other serological tests for the detection of disease status.
  • Assists in the teaching of laboratory technology students.

Position-Specific Details:

Work Location: This Medical Laboratory Technologist PRN position is located in the Pathology Department.

Work Hours: The work schedule will be either 3pm-11pm or 6pm-6am.

Compensation: Shift Pay and Certification pay is included only when working. Base Pay: $26.00 Certification Pay: up to $1.50 Domicile Pay: $1.00 Shift Differential
