RN, Transfer Center | System Administration Office

Be the connection to care—coordinating seamless patient transfers across the UF Health system.

The UF Health Transfer and Patient Flow Center Registered Nurse coordinates all external and internal patient transfers across the UF Health system, ensuring seamless access to care across hospitals, campuses, and care settings.

Provides “one-call” access for referring physicians and facilities, facilitating timely connections to the most appropriate UF Health facility, service line, and provider based on patient needs, system capacity, and clinical capabilities.

Collaborates with clinical teams, physicians, and operational leaders to optimize patient flow, support capacity management, and ensure high-quality, patient-centered care coordination across the enterprise.


Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
  • Apply clinical expertise to interpret diagnoses, assess patient acuity, and identify specialized care requirements
  • Coordinate transfers for specialty services including Trauma, STEMI, Stroke, Neurosciences, Burn, and other high-acuity programs
  • Ensure patients are directed to the appropriate level of care across the system

System Collaboration & Compliance
  • Serve as a system-wide clinical resource supporting patient flow, capacity management, and throughput optimization
  • Ensure compliance with all federal and state regulations, including EMTALA and Access to Care laws
  • Collaborate with physicians, nursing leadership, bed management teams, and operational leaders across all UF Health entities

Operational Responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation and registration functions
  • Collect and manage demographic, financial, and clinical data to support care coordination
  • Support operational decision-making and system-wide efficiency initiatives

Qualifications
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Florida required
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
  • BSN required within three (3) years of hire for nurses hired after April 30, 2014
  • Professional nursing board certification in a specialty area preferred
  • Specialty certification required within two (2) years of hire for nurses hired after June 30, 2011

Licensure/Certification/Registration
  • Licensed to practice professional nursing in the state of Florida
