What is a trainee remote medical billing & coding?

Trainee Remote Medical Billing & Coding positions are entry-level roles designed for individuals who are new to the field of medical billing and coding. In these positions, trainees learn to process healthcare claims, assign appropriate medical codes, and ensure that providers are properly reimbursed for their services. The 'remote' aspect means that the work can be performed from home or another location outside of a traditional office. These roles typically provide on-the-job training and may require completion of a certification program or coursework in medical billing and coding.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a trainee remote medical billing & coding?

To thrive as a Trainee Remote Medical Billing & Coding professional, you need a foundational understanding of medical terminology, coding systems (such as ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS), and attention to detail, often supported by a certificate or diploma in medical billing and coding. Familiarity with medical billing software, electronic health records (EHR) systems, and sometimes HIPAA compliance certification is typically required. Strong organizational skills, communication, and the ability to work independently are important soft skills in this remote role. These competencies ensure accurate claim processing, minimize billing errors, and support effective communication with healthcare providers and insurance companies.

What are some common challenges faced by trainee remote medical billing & coding professionals, and how can they be overcome?

Trainee remote medical billing & coding professionals often encounter challenges such as learning complex coding systems, managing time effectively in a home-based setting, and staying updated with frequent regulatory changes. To overcome these, it's important to dedicate time to ongoing education, seek mentorship from experienced coders, and establish a structured daily routine. Joining professional forums and leveraging online resources also helps in networking and staying current with best practices, which can greatly ease the transition into remote work.

Parallel ENT & Allergy

Lisle, IL โ€ข Remote

Full-time

Re-posted 7 days ago

Job description

We are currently seeking a Director of Revenue Cycle Management to lead the revenue cycle function for our growing specialty physician practice management group. This is a remote role supporting practices across the country. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of effectively managing the entire revenue cycle of a multi-site medical group โ€” including billing, coding, collections, accounts receivable, managed care relationships, and financial analysis โ€” and will bring strong vendor management and people-leadership skills to a role that currently has no direct reports but carries heavy functional oversight of Practice Billing Managers across the network.ย

What Makes Us Different?ย

Parallel ENT & Allergy is a leading practice management services organization serving private ENT, allergy, and audiology practices. We work tirelessly to provide our partners with access to world-class management solutions โ€” including human resources, recruiting, marketing, finance and accounting, payroll management, and information technology.ย

RESPONSIBILITIESย

โ€ขย  Oversee the revenue cycle processes for multiple specialty practices throughout the US, including billing, coding, collections, accounts receivable, and financial analysis.ย

โ€ขย  Provide strong functional leadership and heavy oversight to Practice Billing Managers across the organization, setting expectations, coaching performance, and driving accountability despite the absence of formal direct-report authority.ย

โ€ขย  Develop policies, procedures, and metrics to ensure the efficiency and consistency of revenue cycle operations across all practices.ย

โ€ขย  Analyze and monitor the financial performance of medical practices, including key performance indicators for billing and coding accuracy, denials, and accounts receivable.ย

โ€ขย  Collaborate with the executive team to develop and implement strategies to optimize the revenue cycle.ย

โ€ขย  Own key managed care and payer relationships, ensuring appropriate reimbursement, timely collections, and alignment between billing practices and contract terms.ย

โ€ขย  Serve as the primary point of contact and owner for RCM-related vendors โ€” including clearinghouses, outsourced billing/coding partners, and collections agencies โ€” negotiating contracts and holding vendors accountable to agreed-upon performance metrics.ย

โ€ขย  Maintain up-to-date knowledge of billing rules, procedures, and regulations to educate staff and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.ย

โ€ขย  Review and provide recommendations for the continuous improvement of existing revenue cycle management systems and procedures.ย

โ€ขย  Support the due diligence process for potential acquisitions.ย

โ€ขย  Develop and implement training programs to ensure staff compliance with best practices.ย

โ€ขย  Regularly report on the performance of the revenue cycle function and provide insights to leadership.ย

QUALIFICATIONSย

โ€ขย ย Bachelor's or Master'sย degree preferred in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related field.ย

โ€ขย  7 to 10 years of experience in Revenue Cycle Management, including experience in specialty practice management; prior experience in a multi-site MSO or physician practice management environment strongly preferred.ย

โ€ขย  Strong understanding of ICD-10 codes, CPT codes, and other coding guidelines.ย

โ€ขย  Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer reimbursement methodologies, including managed care contracting fundamentals.ย

โ€ขย  Demonstrated experience owning and managing external vendor relationships, including contract negotiation and performance accountability.ย

โ€ขย  Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.ย

โ€ขย  Strong project management skills with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines.ย

โ€ขย  Proven leadership skills, including the ability to lead, influence, and hold accountable teams and individuals without direct reporting authority.ย

โ€ขย  Strong communication and presentation skills; comfortable operating in a remote, cross-functional environment.ย
