Marathon Targets' mission is to deploy the world's most advanced autonomous robotic target systems. We solve a critical, real-world training gap, which ensures that the first time a shooter fires live ammunition at a realistic, moving target isn't in a real firefight. This role involves operating and maintaining the robotic targets in support of training.
Tasks
Primary tasks include:
- Discuss training with instructors, translating trainer's intent into software scenarios which the robots can execute.
- Transportation of the robot system to the training location (Driving pick-up truck with trailer or box type truck carrying equipment)
- Range set-up: Set up communications equipment, surveying the range, clearing robot running areas of large debris.
- Oversee the targets during training and monitoring their state through the robot-control software.
- Adapt the target's behavior on the spot according to progress of trainees and real-time directions from instructors.
- Robot maintenance and charging.
- Report on training activities and target usage.
- Coordinate with Marathon staff to facilitate improvements based on actual usage.
- Educate military personnel on the target's capabilities and limitations.
Skills/Attributes
This role does not require any specific technical expertise. However, understanding firearms training from a military perspective or Law Enforcement will help in translating the instructors intent into live fire scenarios for the robots. A technical mindset and the ability to troubleshoot is essential. We will provide training in the particulars of operation/maintenance of the system.
- Candidates should have prior service with the US DoD/military or Law Enforcement
- Confidence operating computers
- Experience in CQB or CQB training or MOUT operations is a bonus
- A high mechanical aptitude and some basic experience with electrical debugging
- Ability to work in the field and a willingness to get hands dirty
- Must be able to move around on large training ranges for long durations in full kit.

- Ability to deal with uncertainty and changing plans and accommodate last minute requests
- A willingness to occasionally work long hours and at night as needed
- Ability to be obtain a strict background check on a government and /or law enforcement facilities
- Hold a valid driver's license
- Able to pass a DOT CDL Physical Exam.
- Able to pass a background check
- Have a mature, business like demeanor and the ability to perceive, use, understand, manage and handle emotions
- Demonstrate flexibility and maintain composure and professionalism when timelines are tight and plans are constantly changing
- Communicate capabilities of the training system to customers in a direct businesslike manner.
- Able to support/work in an intense/dynamic live fire environment. Not just standing behind a firing line.
- Ability to travel interstate
- Present a professional appearance at all times
- Ability to travel on short notice
- Able to maintain OPSEC within Marathon Targets
- Be able to read a room and step away when certain conversations start
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift/carry up to 75lbs
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time
- Ability to move with a sense of urgency during tactical scenarios
- Ability to work outside
- Keeping pace with customers in a physical demanding environment if needed
- Successful candidates should be age 21 or older at time of hire.
Training
The chosen candidate will undergo hands-on training alongside a Marathon Staff. Once the candidate is deemed competent, they will begin to run operations independently.
