Job description

Position Summary: Outer Tube Assembler Trainee

The Outer Tube Assembler will be responsible for the repair of the serialized component of the scope as well as ensuring the final product is free from leaks.  This will include grinding, buffing, polishing, cleaning, soldering, bonding, machining, filing, and testing the final product utilizing automated inspection equipment. There are opportunities to move into the following roles: Outer Tube Technician, Outer Tube Specialist, or Outer Tube Coordinator.

Work Hours and Location: 40-hour work week in Dudley, MA with flexible work schedule after training period

Reports To: Designated Team Leader                                          

Essential Functions

Typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Inspecting and evaluating, matching serial numbers
  • Grinding, buffing, polishing, cleaning, bonding, paint filling
  • Machining with hand held tools, filing, manual refinishing
  • Straightening of outer tubes 
  • Soldering of external optical components
  • Fiber transmission testing, leak testing
  • Inspection against specifications
  • This position requires strong mechanical skills.
  • Other duties as requested, directed, or assigned based on knowledge and training experience

Qualifications Required

  • Ability to maintain precise hand-eye coordination to perform detailed tasks with accuracy

Typical Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to sit and use a microscope and/or an eye loop for up to 7 hours a day
  • Must have the hand/arm strength to apply twisting or direct force using a wrench, screwdriver, hand, and/or pliers
  • Must be able to work with machine equipment as trained and required.
  • It is necessary to be able to walk between manufacturing equipment and workbench
Compensation & Benefits
  • $17.87 – $18.87 per hour depending on experience. This range represents the amount the company reasonably and in good faith expect to pay for this role. Final compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and other job-related factors.
  • After successful completion of a 90-day probationary period, Henke Sass Wolf of America offers a competitive selection of benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurances, 401k retirement savings plans, paid time off, and other voluntary benefits. Trainees are not eligible for company benefits until the conclusion of the 90-day probationary and training period.
