Job Title - Systems Engineer Lead
Location - Waukegan, IL - On-site
Employment Type - Full-Time, Exempt
Job Summary
Henry Broch Foods is seeking a Systems Engineer Lead to oversee the implementation, maintenance, integration, support, and optimization of the company's ERP system and related applications. This role will partner with departments across the organization to understand business processes, configure systems, maintain integrations and internal software tools, and provide ongoing user support and training.
The position will also support databases, middleware, system reporting, Linux-based environments, and other technical solutions connected to the ERP system.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Lead the implementation, maintenance, configuration, and optimization of the ERP system.
  • Gather business requirements and translate them into system configurations, reporting, and integrations.
  • Coordinate system upgrades, patches, testing, enhancements, and deployments.
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and identify root causes.
  • Develop and support APIs, middleware, data connections, and system integrations.
  • Write and troubleshoot SQL queries for reporting, data validation, integrations, and issue resolution.
  • Support MySQL and Microsoft SQL Server databases.
  • Administer Linux virtual machines using Systemd, Cron, and OpenSSH.
  • Maintain internal software tools, scripts, and automated processes.
  • Support existing Common Lisp middleware and evaluate modernization using Go or Python.
  • Create reports, queries, data extracts, technical documentation, user guides, and training materials.
  • Provide user training and ongoing technical support.
  • Coordinate with vendors, consultants, and internal IT resources.
  • Lead and mentor assigned technical resources.

Qualifications
  • Proficiency in writing and troubleshooting SQL queries.
  • Experience with MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, or other relational databases.
  • Experience administering Linux virtual machines.
  • Experience supporting ERP systems, APIs, middleware, integrations, or related business applications.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and changing priorities.
  • Strong communication, organization, follow-through, and documentation skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
  • Experience with Python or Go is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Common Lisp, Power BI, and AI-assisted or agentic coding tools is a plus.

Work Environment
This is an on-site role within a food manufacturing and warehouse environment. Employees may be exposed to varying temperatures, humidity, noise, powders, allergens, and food ingredients. Appropriate PPE is required when entering designated production or warehouse areas.
