Job Description:

Education/ Certification Mandatory:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Business Analytics, or a related field. An equivalent combination of relevant education, professional certifications, and practical experience may be considered.

Work Experience Mandatory:

  • Minimum 5+ years of overall Business Intelligence, Data Analytics, or reporting experience, including at least 4+ years of hands-on Power BI development experience. Minimum 2+ years of experience working with SAP BW, BEx Queries, or other SAP data sources. Strong hands-on experience with Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, DAX, Power Query/M, data modeling, report development, data validation, reconciliation, troubleshooting, and performance optimization. Experience with SAP Datasphere, Graphical Views, or a comparable modern SAP analytics platform is strongly preferred. Experience supporting Power BI report migrations, data-source conversions, or similar SAP analytics modernization projects is highly desirable.

Education/Certifications Nice to Have:

  • Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300); Microsoft Certified: Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate (DP-600); SAP Datasphere certification or SAP-delivered training; SAP BW/4HANA, SAP HANA, or other relevant SAP analytics certifications. Copies or verifiable evidence of any claimed certifications must be available upon request.

Work Experience Nice to Have:

  • Prior experience with a public agency, port authority, municipality, or special district; SAP Analytics Cloud experience; Power BI performance optimization against SAP sources; DirectQuery vs. Import trade-off analysis; Power BI deployment pipelines; source control using PBIP/TMDL; familiarity with California Public Records Act implications

Roles And Responsibilities:

  • Support the conversion of existing Power BI reports and dashboards from SAP BW/BEx data sources to SAP Datasphere Graphical Views.
  • Review assigned Power BI reports and analyze existing data sources, BEx queries, transformations, measures, relationships, and report dependencies.
  • Update and repoint Power BI data connections from legacy SAP BW/BEx sources to approved SAP Datasphere Graphical Views.
  • Modify and optimize Power Query/M transformations affected by changes to the underlying data source.
  • Develop, modify, and maintain DAX measures, calculated columns, and other report logic required for the converted reporting environment.
  • Update field mappings, data models, relationships, filters, slicers, visualizations, and other report components.
  • Support the conversion of simple, medium, and complex Power BI reports under the technical direction of the Senior Power BI Developer / Technical Lead.
  • Perform data validation and reconciliation between legacy SAP BW/BEx reports and converted SAP Datasphere-based reports.
  • Identify, document, and troubleshoot data discrepancies, conversion issues, functional defects, and report performance concerns.
  • Work closely with the Senior Technical Lead to investigate and resolve complex technical and data-related issues.
  • Coordinate with the Business Intelligence Analyst and SAP Datasphere modeling team regarding assigned source-data and Graphical View issues.
  • Perform functional testing and support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) activities.
  • Resolve assigned defects and perform necessary report corrections, enhancements, and revalidation.
  • Develop new Power BI reports and dashboards as assigned and in accordance with established technical standards.
  • Modify and enhance existing Power BI reports to accommodate changing business and operational requirements.
  • Optimize Power BI datasets, queries, DAX calculations, data models, and report performance.
  • Support Power BI Service activities, including dataset refresh, workspace configuration, gateways, deployment processes, and Row-Level Security (RLS), as required.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation, report conversion records, validation results, and discrepancy logs.
  • Follow applicable IT security, data handling, access control, governance, and change-management requirements.
  • Participate in knowledge-transfer activities and assist in preparing documentation to support the ongoing maintenance of the converted Power BI environment.

  • Core Technical Requirement
  • The Resource 2 candidate must be a strong hands-on Power BI Developer capable of independently converting and testing assigned reports.
  • The resource should be able to repoint data connections, modify Power Query/M transformations, update DAX calculations and data models, perform data reconciliation, identify discrepancies, and resolve standard conversion issues.
  • Complex migration decisions and overall technical leadership will be provided by Resource 1, the Senior Power BI Developer / SAP Datasphere Technical Lead.
