Job description

The Respiratory Trainee utilizes skills learned through an accredited respiratory therapy program.  Program will combine, work-based, on-the-job learning with relevant didactic education to start on a career path that continues after graduation.
Under the supervision of a Registered Respiratory Therapist, the team member provides the assessment, planning, implementation and limited treatment/therapy evaluation of respiratory patient care (Exclusion treatment/therapy includes Ventilator and Non-Invasive Ventilation therapy). Trainee will only be expected to perform treatments/therapies for which they have received training and instruction.  Responsible for the delivery of respiratory patient care in cooperation with other health care team members, according to the patient delivery model of each unit. The patient population to be served includes infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric.

Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in Fall 2026 first semester of Madison College's Respiratory Therapy Associate's Degree Program
  • BLS Certification within 3 months of hire
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills appropriate to the age of the patients served in the hospital setting
  • Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position

Is there a cost?

The position includes the following:

  • Program tuition
  • Compensation provided for classroom hours (24 hours a week)
  • Flexible schedule and work requirements that are feasible while in school (8 hours a week)
  • Qualifies for benefits within UPH-Meriter at a 0.8FTE. Will work in a benefit eligible 0.5FTE role June 2027-August 2027.
  • Full time employment in a 0.75 - 0.90 FTE Night Position upon successful completion/graduation of Respiratory Therapy program in May 2028.
