Job description

IMI is currently looking for a painter located in the Athens, GA area. The Painter will be responsible for painting products and maintaining tools and equipment while adhering to all environmental, health, safety rules and regulations, and work instructions.
Duties of the Painter will include, but are not limited to:
  • Responsible for applying a layer or layers of coating to a product to protect it from the elements and/or make it more aesthetically appealing.
  • Cleanse products to remove dust, dirt, and debris.
  • Apply protective coverings to articles or areas that could be damaged or stained by work processes.
  • Dip metal parts in chemical bats to prepare surface.
  • Prepare surfaces also by scraping, caulking, applying putty, and sanding.
  • Utilize brush, roller, and spray guns to coat and paint metal, wood, ceramic, etc. with paint or coating solutions.
  • Adjust nozzles on the spray guns to obtain the proper dispersion of the spray.
  • Check the flow and viscosity of the paint or solution.
  • Check the product for flaws, bubbles, or imperfections.
  • Mixes and reduces paint system and applies paint to meet specifications and customer requirements.
  • Ability to read blueprints, read paint codes, and mix paint operate spray guns, mix/thin oil based paints, shoot primers, and maintain and clean spray gun parts.
  • Ability to adjust paint mixing criteria based upon environmental conditions, such as, heat, cold, and humidity.
  • Knowledge of how to operate and maintain sand blasters and bead blasters.
  • Hang parts and kits on paint line in sequence according to direction from planning and scheduling department.
  • Setup, operate, and maintain automatic powder booths and shutdown paint line equipment.
  • Properly stack and protect certain parts to maintain quality standards.
  • Ability to work within precise limits or standards of accuracy using logical step-by-step procedures in work. Plan, solve problems, and make decisions based on quantifiable information.
  • Provide mentoring to both Painter Helpers and Painter Trainees.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES
  • Stand or walk for long periods of time
  • Use arms and hands to reach for, handle, or manipulate objects
  • Lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds; occasionally lift items weighing more than 50 pounds with assistance
  • Climb up and down ladders, scaffolds, and other objects
  • Stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl
  • Eye-hand coordination
  • Good physical fitness
  • Good sense of balance
  • Must be able to pass certain health requirements for respirator use to remain in the paint area.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Degree from an accredited technical school; may be substituted with previous experience as a painter or in a related field.
