Job description

Advanced Practice Provider (APRN/PA) - CareComm

The Critical Care Response Advanced Practitioner (APP) works in collaboration with critical care-intensivist physicians to manage complex critical care cases. This collaborative initiative is designed to actively manage deteriorating and critically ill patients outside the ICU. This role ensures prompt resuscitation, seamless coordination with subspecialty ICUs, and timely patient transfers to improve outcomes. All team members at TGH are expected to perform their duties in alignment with the mission, vision, and values of Tampa General Hospital.

Responsibilities:

  • Possesses in-depth understanding of the causes, risk factors, pathophysiology, and clinical signs of acute emergencies.
  • Provide rapid assessment, stabilization, and management of acutely decompensating patients.
  • Collaborate with Care-Comm, the Rapid Response Team, Hospital Medicine, and the quality office to refine workflows and optimize resource utilization.
  • Facilitate timely ICU transfers and consults while ensuring continuity of care.
  • Liases with Physician in collaboration of AOD to help facilitate getting critically ill patients to the right bed at the right time.
  • Assist in navigating routine encountered complexities r/t capacity limitations, ideal ICU acceptance.
  • Works closely with the transfer center to ensure appropriate and safe transfers of critically ill patients, with mitigation of potential risks and consultations of necessary teams as indicated.
  • Utilize evidence-based critical care protocols to enhance patient outcomes.
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives to advance patient safety and operational efficiency.
  • Assisting in management of critically ill patients awaiting ICU transfer.
  • Utilizes critical thinking skills to effectively interpret and integrate patient data, ensuring informed decision-making and comprehensive care.
  • Conducts thorough and accurate history and physical assessments for critically ill adult patients.
  • Assesses patient response to treatment and adjusts the care plan as necessary.
  • Provides education regarding medical procedures and treatment plans and promotes ongoing communication with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Ensures timely, accurate, and complete documentation in the electronic medical record.
  • Actively participates in the education of trainees and healthcare professionals through teaching and mentorship, and attends required weekly conferences and academic meetings hosted by the Critical Care team and the Division of Advanced Practice.

Technical Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Demonstrates current knowledge and level of expertise utilizing evidence and theory-based practice, infection control standards and clinical evaluations in providing care to patients in hospital-based settings, as evidenced by following established protocols.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and electronic medical records (EMR) systems, preferably Epic.
  • Ability to multitask in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Outstanding customer service and conflict resolution abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills for patient education and provider collaboration.
  • A commitment to advancing care through research and quality improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant (PA) program or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (NP) program.
  • Active PA or APRN license in the state of Florida.
  • National certification as a PA-C or Acute Care NP (AG ACNP or ACNP).
  • BLS and ACLS certification required.
  • Preferred: Experience of working at least two (2) years in the critical care setting as an NP or PA.
  • Strong clinical skills in patient assessment (experience in placing central and arterial lines).

Schedule: Various shifts, 3 x 13-hour shifts. Weekend & holiday rotations. No on call requirements.
