Seeking Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon Southern CA VA

The Loma Linda VA has an opening for an energetic, driven, and compassionate Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon.

As a Joint Commission accredited facility, we proudly serve over 106,000 veterans across San Bernardino, Riverside, and Inyo Counties in sunny Southern California. Our dynamic healthcare system features a state-of-the-art Medical Center with 132 inpatient beds, a vibrant Community Living Center with 110 beds, an advanced Ambulatory Care Center, seven convenient outpatient care sites, and an innovative Telehealth clinic.


An Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon (OMS) within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) health system plays a critical role in the diagnosis, surgical treatment, and management of diseases, injuries, and defects of the oral and maxillofacial region. Their responsibilities are tailored to the VA context, and typically include:

  • Patient Care and Surgical Procedures
    • Evaluate and diagnose conditions affecting the mouth, jaws, face, and neck.
    • Perform surgical procedures such as:
      • Extractions of teeth (including impacted wisdom teeth)
      • Surgical management of maxillofacial trauma (fractures, lacerations)
      • Treatment of oral pathology (tumors, cysts)
      • Pre-prosthetic surgery for dental rehabilitation
    • Manage patients with complex medical histories and provide consultative services.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration
    • Work closely with other medical and dental professionals (ENT, oncology, prosthodontics, anesthesiology, etc.) to provide comprehensive, multidisciplinary care to veteran patients.
  • Administrative Tasks
    • Document patient encounters clearly and accurately in the VA s electronic health record (EHR).
    • Participate in departmental meetings, credentialing, and quality assurance activities.
    • Contribute to compliance with VA policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Education and Training
    • Provide education and supervision to dental residents, medical students, and other healthcare staff if affiliated with an educational program.
    • Participate in continuing medical/dental education to maintain surgical competencies.
  • Veteran-Centric Care
    • Address the unique needs of veterans, including complex medical comorbidities, PTSD, or trauma history.
    • Advocate for veteran patient care and access to oral and maxillofacial surgical services.
  • Emergency and On-Call Coverage
    • Respond to emergent cases involving severe infection or other urgent conditions.

Work Schedule: Mon-Fri 7am-3:30pm

The city is located approximately 60 miles east of Los Angeles in San Bernardino County. Adjacent to California's Interstate 10 freeway, Loma Linda is freeway close to beaches, mountains, and desert resorts.
