Job description

The faculty physician will work as part of a team to facilitate excellent patient care, superior teaching and impactful research. Faculty are responsible for advancing this tripartite mission by performing all duties, functions and tasks related to furthering these important goals.

NORTH CAROLINA -The Pediatric Teaching Program at Cone Health, an academic community hospital in Greensboro, NC, affiliated with the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill, seeks a pediatrician to join its faculty of 10 physicians.

Clinical duties include being a clinician-educator to residents and students in 3 venues: the newborn nursery, as attending physician leading a team of pediatric and family medicine trainees on an 18-bed pediatric ward with over 2000 admissions each year, and resident acute care clinic. Call coverage is approximately once in 7 nights. Other responsibilities include didactic teaching, mentoring, and quality improvement projects. There are no delivery responsibilities. Our decades-long partnership with UNC includes a Primary Care Residency based in Greensboro, UNC Categorical residents, 3rd and 4th year medical students, and Hospital Medicine Fellows.

The teaching service is supported by in-house neonatologists who staff a 45-bed NICU in a state-of-the-art Women's and Children's Hospital, pediatric intensive care physicians who staff a 4-bed PICU, pediatric subspecialists, and an ambulatory clinic that serves as the home site for the UNC Pediatric Primary Care Residency. Both the inpatient ward and newborn nursery are supported by nurse practitioners.

The ideal candidate will be BC/BE in Pediatrics or Med/Peds, possess outstanding clinical skills and teaching expertise. Board certification in pediatric hospital medicine is not required. Applicants are eligible for a faculty appointment at the UNC School of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics at the assistant, associate, or full professor level.

About the area. The Greensboro urban area is the 3rd largest in North Carolina with a population of 300,000 people and a regional population of approximately 1 million. Greensboro offers excellent schools along with numerous parks, multi-cultural and sporting events, including the recently opened Tanger Center for Performing Arts, and much more. This family-friendly city is also one of the most diverse mid-size cities in America. For weekend getaways, Greensboro is within easy driving distance to the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area, as well as the pristine beaches of NC, SC, and VA.
