Job description

Department
The National High Magnetic Field Laboratory , headquartered at Florida State University, a top-tier research-intensive university, seeks highly qualified applicants to join our program in optical spectroscopy of condensed matter, with an emphasis on ultrafast optical techniques. The NHMFL is the world's largest and highest-powered magnet laboratory. It is home to several world-record-breaking magnets, including the 45 T Hybrid and the 25 T Split-Florida Helix. Research spans physics, chemistry, materials science, biochemistry, instrumentation, and related fields. The NHMFL hosts one of the world's largest communities of scientists working in high magnetic fields and provides a highly collaborative environment with extensive technical and scientific support. The post-doctoral associate being sought will work with a team to develop and use instrumentation to produce, deliver, and measure extreme ultraviolet (XUV) light to samples placed in the 25 T Split-Florida Helix magnet.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will contribute to the development of a novel experimental platform combining ultrafast extreme ultraviolet spectroscopy with high magnetic fields to investigate emergent phenomena in quantum materials and other condensed matter systems. The candidate will work closely with DC Magnetic Field staff, external project co-PIs, MagLab users, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows; contribute to collaborative and independent research projects; publish manuscripts; and participate in the development of external grant proposals. Postdoctoral applicants must have completed a Ph.D. in a STEM field and demonstrate strong scholarly potential in the ultrafast spectroscopy of condensed matter, chemistry, biochemistry, or related subject matter.
Qualifications
PhD in Physics, Chemistry, or a related area
  • Applicants should have demonstrated expertise in ultrafast optical spectroscopy including (but not limited to) sample preparation, data acquisition, experiment design and construction.
  • Experience with high-harmonic generation, XUV spectroscopy, or related ultrafast nonlinear optical techniques is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with cryogenic and vacuum technologies for low-temperature measurements.
  • The ability to bring innovative methods, technology development, or collaborative opportunities will be considered a significant strength.
