Position Description
JOB TITLE: Heavy Equipment Operator
REPORTS TO: Superintendent
JOB OVERVIEW
The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating heavy equipment in a safe, effective and appropriate manner. Heavy equipment may include trucks, front-end loaders, dozers, graders, compactors, and other pieces of equipment. The Heavy Equipment Operator must also clean, maintain and secure all equipment as directed by legislation, policies and procedures.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
Operate heavy equipment in a safe and effective manner in order to minimize the risk of injury, property damage or loss of life.
Operate all heavy equipment in a safe and efficient way according to all relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
Perform daily safety and maintenance checks.
Clean heavy equipment as scheduled and/or required.
Ensure heavy equipment is safely and securely stored.
Advise supervisor of any requirements for maintenance or repairs.
Practice workplace safety and actively participate in weekly safety meetings.
Other duties as dictated by management.
GENERAL SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:

WORKING CONDITIONS:
The Heavy Equipment Operator has a physically strenuous and demanding job, lifting, pulling and managing heavy equipment and objects. Must be prepared to work outside in all weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold, and must ensure that all activities are completed in a safe and efficient way.
Position Requirements
High School Diploma/GED
Driver's License
Experience in Heavy Civil Construction is a plus.
Travel Requirements:
These positions require travel to the jobsite.
