Job description

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Intern with a background in business/healthcare management to train in the Department of Diagnostic Imaging Administration at MD Anderson Cancer Center. The intern will participate in an educational training program that provides exposure to the operational and strategic functions of an imaging department. The trainee will engage in guided learning related to business operations, capacity planning, service line growth, and development of new imaging locations.

The internship also includes exposure to capital equipment planning, procurement, data analytics, and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence to support operational decision-making. LEARNING OBJECTIVES 1. Operational Strategy and Growth Management - The trainee will learn how DI operations are structured by participating in discussions related to service line performance, patient volume, and operational demand.

The trainee will learn how leadership evaluates capacity and growth trends to support business planning and expansion. The trainee will also participate in educational discussions on business development, including how new imaging locations are planned, and will learn about the role of construction, equipment installation, and engineering teams in maintaining operations. 2.

Capital Investment and Equipment Evaluation Strategy - The trainee will learn how imaging departments evaluate the need for new equipment by reviewing factors such as volume, utilization, patient demand, and operational capacity. The trainee will participate in discussions on how different equipment models are compared and selected based on clinical, operational, and financial considerations. The trainee will also learn about purchasing processes, including how supply needs are assessed and how vendor discussions and negotiations may influence decisions related to acquiring new machines.

3. Data-Driven Performance and AI Integration in Imaging - The trainee will learn how statistics and operational data are used to track growth, monitor performance, and support decision-making within DI. The trainee will participate in discussions on how key metrics such as volume, utilization, and trends are interpreted to guide strategic planning.

The trainee will also learn about the role of artificial intelligence in DI, including how AI tools are evaluated and considered when exploring new technology purchases and innovations. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS The ideal candidate will have recently (within one year) been awarded a bachelor's or master's degree in business/healthcare management or a related field. Prior experience is preferred but not required.
