Job description

This is an overhire, as-needed, W-2 position intended to support increased production demands during busy periods. Team members in this role will receive weekly outreach regarding upcoming scheduling needs and availability. Weekend availability preferred!
The CNC Operator receives cut files and materials to cut and label parts for assembly on CNC machines according to production schedules and department goals. This role works collaboratively with other production team members to safely and efficiently complete assigned work while maintaining quality standards and shop safety practices.
Responsibilities:
  • Review assigned tasks and communicate questions, concerns, or updates to the Programmers and/or Department Manager.
  • Operate CNC machinery including machine interfaces, vacuum pumps, and dust collection systems.
  • Monitor, track, and label cut lists accurately and efficiently.
  • Assist with CNC machine troubleshooting, routine maintenance, and basic repairs.
  • Oversee dust collection operations including power management, bag changes, and maintenance.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of wood, metal, plastic-based engineered sheet goods, router bits, abrasives, and cutting tools.
  • Train and work on CNC department machines, equipment, and tools as needed.
  • Cross-train on waterjet equipment when required.
  • Assist with moving and building elements throughout production departments.
  • Operate shop machines, equipment, and pneumatic/electric tools safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain strong attention to detail, organization, and quality control.
  • Communicate task progress and estimated completion timelines to the Lead Programmer and/or Department Manager.
  • Ensure cut lists are completed, cross-checked, organized, labeled, and prepared for handoff to the next production stage.
  • Follow and demonstrate safe operating practices at all times.

Ideal Qualifications:
  • 1+ years of CNC operation experience, including loading materials, changing tooling, running programs, and performing routine machine maintenance.
  • Familiarity with CNC flatbed milling machines required.
  • Experience working with a variety of sheet goods including plywood, MDF, acrylic, foam, and similar materials.
  • Knowledge of router bits and tooling applications for different materials and cutting operations.
  • Reliable, organized, and capable of working semi-independently after task assignment.
  • Strong work ethic, adaptability, and willingness to learn.
  • Availability to work flexible, on-call schedules, and weekends during peak production periods preferred.
