How much do trailer driver jobs pay per hour?

As of Jul 1, 2026, the average hourly pay for trailer driver in the United States is $25.56, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $19.23 and $27.64 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are trailer drivers?

Trailer drivers are professional drivers who operate large vehicles, such as tractor-trailers or semi-trucks, to transport goods over local, regional, or long distances. They are responsible for safely loading, hauling, and unloading cargo, as well as ensuring their vehicle complies with safety regulations. Trailer drivers must have a commercial driver's license (CDL) and often work for freight companies, logistics firms, or as independent contractors. Their role is crucial to supply chains and the timely delivery of products across industries.

Does Walmart offer $110,000 salary to new drivers?

Walmart does not typically offer new trailer drivers a salary of $110,000. Entry-level truck drivers at Walmart usually start with lower wages, and salaries can increase with experience, certifications, and driving hours. High salaries like $110,000 are generally associated with experienced drivers with specialized skills or long-term employment.

What is the difference between Trailer Driver vs Truck Driver?

Common Search IntentTrailer Driver vs Truck DriverTrailer Driver vs Truck Driver

Trailer Drivers primarily focus on transporting trailers, often within specific industries, while Truck Drivers typically operate entire trucks over various routes. Both roles require a CDL and involve driving large vehicles, but their work environments and responsibilities differ slightly. Understanding these differences helps job seekers find the right career path in transportation and logistics.

What are some common challenges trailer drivers face on the job, and how can they be managed?

Trailer drivers often encounter challenges such as navigating congested routes, managing tight delivery schedules, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. Adapting to changing weather conditions and maintaining focus during long hours on the road are also common. To effectively manage these challenges, successful drivers plan routes in advance, communicate regularly with dispatchers, and stay updated on transportation laws. Utilizing GPS technology, practicing defensive driving, and adhering to rest schedules can further enhance safety and efficiency.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Trailer Driver, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Trailer Driver, you need a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL), safe driving skills, and knowledge of highway regulations. Familiarity with GPS navigation systems, electronic logging devices (ELDs), and basic vehicle maintenance is typically required. Reliability, attention to detail, and strong time management are crucial soft skills for this role. These competencies ensure safe transport of goods, compliance with legal requirements, and efficient, on-time deliveries.

Is 40 too old to get CDL?

There is no maximum age limit to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for trailer drivers. As long as you meet the physical, medical, and driving record requirements, you can pursue a CDL at age 40 or older. Experience, skills, and proper training are key factors in qualifying for a trailer driver position.

What company in Texas is paying truckers $14000 a week?

Trailer drivers can earn high weekly wages through specialized hauling, long-haul routes, or with experience and certifications. While some companies may advertise high-paying positions, earning $14,000 a week is uncommon and typically involves additional bonuses or incentives; most truck drivers earn significantly less on average.

Why do most people quit trucking?

Many truck drivers quit due to long hours, time away from home, and demanding schedules that can lead to fatigue and stress. Additionally, issues such as low pay, lack of job security, and challenging working conditions contribute to high turnover in the trucking industry.

Mobile Trailer Driver — Trusted Professional Wanted

Chick-fil-A is seeking a highly dependable professional to transport and support our Mobile Trailer — a role built for someone who takes pride in responsibility, preparation, and serving others. This position is ideal for individuals coming from careers such as public safety, military service, commercial transportation, or logistics who want meaningful work with a team that values reliability, excellence, and community impact. You won’t just be towing a trailer — you will help deliver experiences that bring care and

What You’ll Be Responsible For:

  • Safely towing the Chick-fil-A Mobile Trailer to community events, schools, and partnerships
  • Performing detailed safety checks before and after transport
  • Confidently maneuvering and parking the trailer in a variety of environments
  • Ensuring equipment is secure, operational, and event-ready
  • Supporting setup and breakdown with the event team
  • Serving as a calm, solutions-focused presence when plans shift

Strongly Encouraged to Apply If You Have Experience In:

  • Fire service
  • Military
  • Law enforcement
  • Commercial driving
  • Transportation or logistics (UPS, FedEx, freight, etc.)

Your background has already built the habits that matter here — accountability, situational awareness, and commitment to team success.

What Sets the Right Candidate Apart:

  •  Extremely reliable — your team never wonders if you’ll show up
  • Safety is second nature
  • You plan ahead and communicate early
  • Comfortable operating expensive equipment with care
  • Professional, respectful, and trusted by those around you
  • Able to stay steady under pressure

Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Experience towing trailers strongly preferred
  • Ability to lift 40–50 lbs
  • Comfortable working outdoors and supporting events when needed

Chick-fil-A® is more than a restaurant – it’s a brand built on teamwork, leadership development, and a commitment to fostering a positive, people-first environment. Each location is independently owned and operated by dedicated franchisees who prioritize the growth of their Team Members and actively give back to the communities they serve.
