Job description

GAI Consultants has a career-building opportunity for a Traffic Engineer within our Transportation and Infrastructure Unit’s traffic design group. GAI is an established and growing multi-discipline engineering firm with tremendous growth opportunities. This position can be based out of multiple office locations and has the opportunity for a sign-on Bonus.

Responsibilities 

  • Design of traffic engineering elements including traffic signals, roadway lighting, signage and pavement markings, ITS infrastructure, and work zone traffic control.
  • Traffic analysis and modeling utilizing various software tools such as Highway Capacity Software (HCS), Synchro, Sidra, and PTV software tools (Vissim/Vistro/Visum).
  • Safety data collection and analysis including crash data review, crash rate calculations, and Highway Safety Manual (HSM) analysis.
  • Development related traffic impact analysis
  • Preparation of Transportation Management Plans for major roadway improvement projects
  • Preparation of traffic related technical documents and reports
  • Related field work and site visits

Technical Responsibilities

  • Occasionally designs portions of a project, system, component, or process. 
  • Prepares plans, specifications, and other project documents. 
  • Designs and conducts analyses and interprets test data.

Project and Task Management

  • Occasionally assigns tasks to other technical and non-technical staff. 
  • Occasionally plans and coordinates detailed aspects of the engineering work. 
  • Prepares scopes, budgets, and schedules for assignments. 
  • Assists with proposals to provide professional services or obtain funding for engineering projects or projects.

Management Responsibility

  • Receives general direction on key objectives. Receives guidance on unconventional/complex problems, direction on modified techniques, and new approaches on assignments with conflicting criteria. 
  • Mentors junior staff by providing guidance, explaining professional responsibilities, and reviewing work products. 
  • Attends project meetings and presents specific aspects of engineering assignments.

Communication Skills

  • Communicates effectively to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
