Job Description:

Parsons' Atlanta office is seeking a qualified Traffic Engineering Intern to join our multidisciplinary team. This role offers hands-on experience on traffic engineering applications across a diverse portfolio of transport infrastructure projects, varying in both scale and complexity.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Traffic Analysis: Process turning movement counts, speed data, and travel time runs and evaluate roadway and intersection performance using tools like Synchro/SimTraffic.
  • Safety Analysis: Review historical crash reports to identify high-collision patterns (hot spots), calculate crash rates, and evaluate potential countermeasure treatments.
  • Geospatial & CAD Support: Create, edit, and organize GIS layers and CAD drawings (e.g., ArcGIS, MicroStation, AutoCAD) to map roadway networks, and develop signage/striping plans.
  • Documentation: Build and maintain structured spreadsheets (e.g., capacity analyses, signal warrant checks, sight distance calculations).
  • Team Collaboration: Coordinate daily task deliverables with senior project engineers, participate in progress meetings, and conduct on-site field visits
  • Technical Reporting: Draft technical memoranda, methodology sections, Level of Service tables, and summary figures summarizing traffic findings and proposed engineering recommendations.

What Required Skills You'll Bring:

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Science program in Civil Engineering (or a related field) at an accredited college or university.
  • Completed at least 1 year of undergraduate coursework within the degree program.


What Desired Skills You'll Bring:

  • Basic knowledge of AutoCAD, MicroStation, or GIS for mapping.
  • Familiarity with basic traffic engineering concepts (e.g. volume, speed, delay) and manuals such as Highway Capacity Manual (HCM), Highway Safety Manual (HSM) and MUTCD
  • Familiarity with tools like Synchro, SimTraffic, Vissim, or Highway Capacity Software (HCS).
