D&H Flagging is dedicated to delivering professional, reliable, and safe traffic management solutions throughout the regions of Oregon and Southwest Washington and is a division of The Universal Group, recognized as one of Canada's Best Managed companies in 2026, and has exciting opportunities in our construction projects. As a flagger, you will ensure the safety and flow of traffic in work zones. You will be responsible for setting up traffic control zones, adjusting work zone equipment, and responding to emergencies and hazards. You will also play a critical role in upholding quality, delivery, safety, and responsiveness requirements, ensuring that the company's operations run smoothly and without incidents.
What you will be responsible for:
Traffic Control Setup:
  • Sets up, adjusts, and dismantles traffic control zones according to approved traffic control plans and site requirements.
  • Places and retrieves signs, cones, barricades, and other traffic control devices.
  • Directs vehicle and pedestrian traffic using clear and precise hand signals and approved stop/slow paddles.
  • Maintains awareness of changing traffic conditions and adjusts traffic control measures as needed.

Safety and Compliance:
  • Performs all work in accordance with OSHA, Oregon OSHA, and company safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensures traffic control activities comply with ODOT standards and the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
  • Responds appropriately to emergencies, hazards, and unsafe work conditions.
  • Participates in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and incident investigations as required.
  • Reports all injuries, incidents, near misses, hazards, and non-compliance concerns immediately.
  • Maintains a safe work environment for employees, contractors, motorists, and pedestrians.

Reporting and Communication:
  • Communicates effectively with dispatch, supervisors, clients, and team members regarding assignments and worksite conditions.
  • Receives daily job assignments and confirms availability as required.
  • Uses appropriate communication tools, including smartphones and navigation applications, to support job performance.
  • Demonstrates professionalism and effective de-escalation when interacting with the public.

Equipment and Worksite Readiness:
  • Maintains and properly uses required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ensures all required traffic control equipment is available and in good working condition.
  • Travels reliably to assigned worksites throughout the Portland Metro Area.
  • Uses navigation tools such as Google Maps, Waze, or Apple Maps to arrive on time to assignments.
