Traffic Control Field Manager

Salary Range: $44.00 To $47.00 Hourly

Job Summary:

The Traffic Control Field Manager oversees the daily field operations of the Traffic Control division to ensure the safe, efficient, and compliant execution of traffic control services. This position provides leadership for multiple crews and supervisors, coordinates staffing and scheduling, ensures compliance with traffic control standards and company policies, maintains customer relationships, and supports operational excellence across assigned projects.

Example of Duties:

  • Manages daily field operations for traffic control projects and crews.
  • Provides leadership and oversight to Traffic Control Supervisors and field personnel.
  • Develops daily and weekly crew schedules based on project needs, staffing availability, and customer requirements.
  • Coordinates staffing assignments to maximize operational efficiency and project coverage.
  • Performs quality inspections and field audits to verify compliance with approved traffic control plans, company procedures, and regulatory standards.
  • Serves as the primary operational contact for customers by responding to operational concerns, resolving field issues, and maintaining positive client relationships.
  • Coaches, mentors, develops, and evaluates field employees to improve performance and support succession planning.
  • Tracks traffic control equipment inventory and coordinates repairs, maintenance, and replacement of equipment as needed.
  • Partners with dispatch and project management to coordinate changing project requirements and emergency response needs.
  • Investigates operational incidents, customer concerns, and field issues.
  • Supports hiring, performance management, disciplinary actions, and employee development in partnership with Human Resources.
  • Recommend process improvements to increase operational efficiency, safety, and customer satisfaction.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Expert knowledge of traffic control operations, work zone safety, and traffic control plan implementation.
  • Strong leadership with the ability to coach and manage multiple teams.
  • Excellent organizational and operational planning abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and staffing requirements simultaneously.
  • Strong customer service and relationship management skills.
  • Ability to make sound operational decisions in fast-paced environments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite, scheduling software, dispatch systems, iPads, and mobile technology.
  • Ability to analyze operational performance and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ability to travel between job sites throughout assigned service areas.
  • Ability to travel overnight as business needs require.

Experience/Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 12 years of progressively responsible traffic control experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience leading multiple crews or supervisors preferred.
  • Experience managing customer relationships and field operations preferred.

Licenses/Certifications

  • ATSSA Traffic Control Supervisor (TCS) Certification preferred.
  • Additional ATSSA (REQUIRED), Caltrans, or OSHA certifications preferred.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license, Class C, with the ability to maintain insurability under the companyโ€™s insurance carrier.
