Job description

Sr. Lead Platform Engineer
The ideal candidate will work with senior leaders to deliver results across a broad portfolio of initiatives and is comfortable thinking strategically. This leader will identify opportunities and leverage the team to translate them into live solutions.
We are seeking a candidate with a strong track record of delivering successful and productive experiences in a broad collaboration ecosystem. You will be delivering sophisticated capabilities across many use cases within a dynamic array of business and technology constraints.
In this role you will bring together key stakeholders across product, tech, risk, cyber, and lines of business together to drive strategy and execute on high priority, strategic initiatives. You will be able to deliver outsized and measurable outcomes by defining and guiding objectives, roadmaps, cross organization collaboration, progress and technical requirements for our Teams. This will require ability to communicate across technical and non-technical stakeholders and manage strategic initiatives with a deep focus on execution and follow-through, accountability and results.
Responsibilities:
  • Design, document, and maintain the enterprise-wide Google Workspace Collaboration Platform
  • Design, document, and maintain the enterprise-wide Microsoft M365 Collaboration Platform
  • Partner with Product and Risk stakeholders to translate business objectives and risk tolerance into platform configurations, security practices, and data handling policies.
  • Partner with Access team on the IAM strategy for Google Workspace and/or M365, including multi-factor authentication, SSO integration, and context-aware access policies.
  • Partner with key stakeholders to architect, implement, and manage a robust content management program for Google Drive to prevent unauthorized sharing of sensitive data.
  • Maintain and execute lifecycle-based governance processes for third-party applications accessing Workspace data, including risk assessments and security audits.
  • Ensure the Google Workspace platform meets or exceeds regulatory and legal framework requirements through proper configuration, operation, and auditing.
  • Collaborate with Legal, Compliance, and HR to apply Google Vault data retention, eDiscovery, and legal holds correctly.
  • Identify automation opportunities for repetitive administrative tasks, partnering with the K&P SWE team where appropriate.
  • Provide prompt and effective technical support to users, troubleshooting issues and answering questions
  • Monitor system performance, security, and data integrity, taking proactive measures to address potential problems
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest Google Workspace features and best practices, implementing updates and improvements as needed
  • Develop and maintain clear documentation and training materials for users
  • Focus on building and maintaining the underlying operational aspects of the platform including remediating vulnerabilities
  • Monitor platform support Slack channels and address customer questions and issues
  • Work closely with the Architecture team to align the platforms to latest architecture and configuration
  • Encourage innovation, automation, implementation of cutting-edge technologies, inclusion, outside-of-the-box thinking, teamwork, self-organization and diversity to a legacy process
  • Develop, and utilize best practices to enhance the overall user experience of the platform
  • Collaborate with the Software Engineers to ensure software works seamlessly on the platforms
  • Work with product owners to understand desired application capabilities and testing scenarios
  • Continuously improve platform engineering practices and proactively identify risks and execute strategies that eliminate or mitigate those risks
  • Work within and across Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement and support technical solutions across a full-stack of development tools and technologies
  • Bring a passion to stay on top of tech trends, experiment with and learn new technologies, participate in internal & external technology communities, and mentor other members of the engineering community
  • Encourage innovation, implementation of cutting-edge technologies, inclusion, outside-of-the-box thinking, teamwork, self-organization and diversity
  • Directly and indirectly lead a teams of engineers and people leaders to build strategy for each platform and drive being Well Managed, the core goal at Capital One
  • Utilize scripting languages like Python, Bash, and others.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 6 years of cumulative experience in enterprise information technology, systems engineering, or cybersecurity roles.
  • At least 4 years of direct, hands-on experience architecting, administering, and securing a large-scale (1,000+ user) Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 collaboration environment.
  • Hands-on experience deploying, configuring, or managing services across SaaS, IaaS, and PaaS cloud environments.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Systems, an MBA with a technology focus, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Current Google Certified - Associate Google Workspace Administrator certification is strongly preferred. Acknowledged expertise with the content and objectives of the retired Professional Google Workspace Administrator certification is also highly valued as an indicator of advanced experience.
  • 6+ years of experience administering Google Workspace or a similar enterprise productivity suite or 6+ years of experience administering Microsoft M365 or a similar enterprise productivity suite
  • Experience with Google GenAI / LLM platforms and other Agentic or SaaS AI capabilities
  • 6+ years of experience using build and deployment tools (Jenkins, GitHub, or Artifactory)
  • 4 + years of experience in scripting (Powershell, Python, Bash)
  • 4+ years of experience working with Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform, Cloudformation, CDK, or others.
  • 2+ year of experience in the financial or tech industry

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
McLean, VA: $200,700 - $229,100 for Sr. Lead Platform Engineer
New York, NY: $219,000 - $249,900 for Sr. Lead Platform Engineer
Plano, TX: $182,500 - $208,300 for Sr. Lead Platform Engineer
Richmond, VA: $182,500 - $208,300 for Sr. Lead Platform Engineer
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
