Working Hours and/or Working Conditions: Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Bending carrying and working in various weather and environmental conditions (indoor and outdoor) and use of ladders and heavy equipment is required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: shall be able to read, write, follow and issue written directions; shall be able to read and understand physical plant blueprints and specifications; may be required to work in other departments from time to time. Experience collaborating with outside contractors.
Supervision: SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Supervision Received from the Associate Director of Facilities, and receives direction from skilled trades Chief or designee. SUPERVISION GIVEN: Directs maintenance and operations personnel as assigned
Job Function
Serve as an assistant to the skilled trades department. Performs various maintenance/operational duties, including limited functions of skilled tradesmen and facilities maintenance technician's in and around all college owned or operated property as assigned. Assigned to travel and work between all campuses on a regular basis.
Job Responsibilities
- Performs preventative maintenance to a variety of College owned equipment (e.g. HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Carpentry) including, adjusting, lubricating, replacing filters and minor components.
- Perform repairs to building facilities and equipment that require use of common power and hand tools.
- Perform routine electrical tasks such as resetting circuit breakers, GFI, HOA motor controls, lighting controls, etc.
- Perform routine HVAC tasks such as operating hot water heating and cooling valves, resetting sensors, and controllers etc.
- Perform minor repairs and adjustments to doors, lock and exit hardware etc.
- Perform routine plumbing tasks such as plunging toilets, shutting off water supplies, installing toilet accessories, etc.
- Develops and completes Material/Work Request documentation
- Utilizes software for inventory tracking and communication.
- May be assigned to layout, estimate, schedule, and coordinate jobs as assigned.
- Supervise workers as may be assigned from time to time.
- Install, maintain, and repair all College owned property and equipment.
- Coordinate work with outside contractors.
- Assist in the maintenance of all equipment and property for the purpose of a preventive maintenance program.
- Use and maintain machines and other tools as required.
- Fills out building reports and information as assigned.
- Performs exterior landscaping duties as assigned, including cutting lawns, trimming trees and hedges, and removes snow.
- Operates a variety of powered equipment, including Chainsaws, String Trimmers, Edger's, Blowers etc.
- Operates College vehicles and equipment including Frontend loaders, Broom Tractors, Backhoes, Riding Lawnmowers, Plow trucks, etc.
- Drive vehicles as assigned.
- Order materials as needed to conduct assigned duties.
- Clean area as assigned and after related jobs are completed.
- Clean, move, and install furniture as assigned.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Education
High school graduate associates degree or skilled trades related certificate. Must possess a valid Michigan driver's license. Working hours may vary.
Qualifications
Two years' work experience in the fields of trouble shooting, repair, and maintenance of various types of equipment and/or facilities.
