A highly respected and growth-oriented law firm is seeking an experienced Trademark Attorney to join its Intellectual Property practice in one of its Metro Detroit offices. This opportunity is ideal for an attorney with substantial trademark prosecution, portfolio management, and brand protection experience who is looking to step into a sophisticated practice serving both established global companies and emerging businesses.


The practice supports a diverse client base ranging from Fortune 500 companies to startups across a variety of industries. Attorneys in this group handle complex domestic and international trademark matters while collaborating closely with other practice areas as client needs evolve. The firm is seeking a commercially minded attorney who can independently manage client relationships, contribute to business development efforts, and help support the continued growth of the intellectual property team.


This opportunity is well suited for an attorney operating at or near a non-equity shareholder level who values long-term growth, strong client interaction, and a collaborative environment. What You’ll Do


• Manage domestic and international trademark portfolios for a broad range of clients

• Conduct preliminary and comprehensive trademark clearance searches using U.S. and international databases

• Prepare, file, and prosecute U.S. trademark applications and related filings

• Handle international trademark matters through the Madrid Protocol, Paris Convention, WIPO, and foreign counsel coordination

• Draft and respond to trademark office actions and manage post-registration maintenance filings

• Oversee trademark watch notices, brand policing efforts, and enforcement strategy

• Handle TTAB proceedings including oppositions, cancellations, and extensions of time to oppose

• Assist with trademark-related litigation matters in state and federal court as needed

• Coordinate domain name registrations, transfers, and UDRP proceedings

• Work closely with docketing personnel and trademark management systems including Anaqua

• Cultivate and maintain strong client relationships while contributing to business development initiatives

• Assist with process improvement initiatives to support efficiency and continued practice growth


What You Bring


• J.D. from an accredited law school

• Admission to practice in Michigan or the District of Columbia and admission before the USPTO

• 5–10+ years of trademark and intellectual property experience

• Strong background in U.S. and international trademark prosecution and portfolio management

• Experience handling TTAB matters and trademark enforcement strategy

• Excellent legal writing, communication, and client management skills

• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with attorneys and staff

• Strong organizational and project management abilities in a fast-paced environment

• Portable book of business is required

• Entrepreneurial mindset with interest in long-term practice growth and client development
