Essential Job Summary::

We are seeking a skilled and safety-focused Tractor Trailer Chassis Mechanic to inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair intermodal chassis, trailers, and related equipment. This position is responsible for ensuring equipment meets all applicable industry, regulatory, and company safety standards while maximizing fleet reliability, minimizing downtime, and supporting operational efficiency.

The ideal candidate possesses strong mechanical aptitude, excellent troubleshooting skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Job Functions: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.:

  • Perform inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on chassis, trailers, and related equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair brake, suspension, axle, electrical, wheel-end, and structural systems.
  • Conduct annual, pre-repair, and post-repair inspections in compliance with AAR, IICL, FMCSA, DOT, and company standards.
  • Identify and document equipment defects using mobile inspection technology.
  • Perform quality control inspections and verify repairs are completed to standard.
  • Address DVIR deficiencies and ensure equipment is safe and road-ready.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and work orders.
  • Operate company vehicles safely and comply with all company and safety policies.
  • Support vendor audits, special projects, and other duties as assigned
Requirements and Qualifications::
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 6 months of mechanical, fleet maintenance, trailer, or chassis repair experience required.
  • Experience with intermodal chassis maintenance preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • IICL Chassis Inspector Certification preferred (or ability to obtain).
  • Ability to obtain TWIC, ERailSafe, and other required site credentials.
  • Basic knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, and OSHA regulations.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, crawl, and work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy equipment components, including truck tires.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to work in an environment with loud noises and strong odors.
  • Occasional travel may be required
