Job description

The purpose of this position is to oversee and adjust property and casualty claims for members and TPA customers. This is accomplished by investigating and evaluating property and casualty claims from members, performing TPA functions, negotiating settlements with members, claimants, or their legal representatives, and providing other services to members and TPA customers as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct investigations by contacting members and claimants.
  • Determine the involved municipal department and appropriate contact person.
  • Investigate claims.
  • Obtain recorded or written statements.
  • Determine whether a claim should be settled or denied.
  • Determine coverage and liability.
  • Negotiate settlements with members, claimants, or their legal representatives.
  • Determine the extent of damages.
  • Report claim problems to the supervisor.
  • Maintain proper reserves.
  • Recognize potential for litigation.
  • Ensure settlement documents are obtained.
  • Issue settlement checks.
  • Perform TPA functions.
  • Provide services to members and TPA customers as needed
  • Attend continuing education courses and seminars.
  • Research and review publications, media reports, and judicial opinions.
