Job description

The Town of Winthrop is seeking an innovative, collaborative, and forward-thinking Town Planner to help guide the community's growth while preserving the qualities that gives Winthrop its unique sense of place.

Located near Maine’s state capital, Winthrop is a vibrant lakeside community of approximately 6,100 residents. The Town is actively investing in its future through downtown revitalization, affordable housing initiatives, comprehensive planning, open space conservation, infrastructure improvements, and community development. This position offers an exceptional opportunity to take on a meaningful role working with an exceptional team of staff and volunteers to make a lasting positive impact on a community that values thoughtful planning and professional expertise.

  • The Town values innovation, collaboration, customer service, and thoughtful planning. The successful candidate will join a professional team committed to continuous improvement and providing exceptional service to residents.
  • The Town Planner serves as the municipality’s professional planning advisor to the Planning Board, Town Council, Town Manager, Zoning Board of Appeals, and other municipal committees.
  • This position leads long-range planning initiatives, administers land use regulations, supports community development, prepares grant applications for designated planning projects, oversees environmental planning programs, and administers the development review process.
