Position Summary
The Die Maintenance Technician is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and improving progressive and transfer dies used in automotive metal stamping operations. This position requires strong mechanical aptitude, precision workmanship, and the ability to work independently while supporting production requirements.
Successful candidates will have experience working in a Tool Room environment and possess the technical skills necessary to maintain tooling that meets quality and production standards.
Essential Responsibilities
Tool & Die Maintenance
- Repair and maintain progressive and transfer stamping dies.
- Diagnose tooling issues and implement effective repairs.
- Perform preventative maintenance on tooling and related equipment.
- Support production by minimizing tooling downtime.
- Troubleshoot die-related quality and production concerns.
- Perform tool steel repairs and modifications.
Fabrication & Tool Room Operations
- TIG weld, weld, and repair tool steels.
- Perform precision hand grinding and finishing operations.
- Operate Tool Room equipment including:
- Manual Mills
- Surface Grinders
- Lathes
- Hand Tools and Precision Measuring Equipment
- Read and interpret blueprints, tooling prints, and mechanical drawings.
- Assist with tooling improvements and continuous improvement projects.
Safety & Quality
- Follow all company safety procedures and safe work practices.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Ensure tooling repairs meet quality standards.
- Work effectively within a team-oriented manufacturing environment.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Stable work history with strong attendance record.
- Ability to work any shift as required.
- Ability to work overtime and weekends when needed.
- Ability to work safely in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and blueprints.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
Education & Experience Requirements
Option 1
- Associate Degree (or equivalent) in Tool & Die Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of hands-on Tool & Die experience.
Option 2
- Minimum of 5 years of documented Die Maintenance experience in a metal stamping environment.

Testing Requirements
All candidates must successfully complete:
- Written Die Maintenance Assessment
- Hands-On Skills Evaluation (upon successful completion of the written test)
Testing is also available for qualified employees seeking advancement to higher pay levels.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and work in a manufacturing environment for extended periods.
- Ability to lift, move, and handle tooling components safely.
- Ability to safely operate Tool Room equipment and overhead cranes when required.
