Sony Electronics is seeking a Public Relations Manager to join our Marketing team and lead public relations strategy for the Sony Electronics brand and Personal Entertainment business unit. Based at our San Diego headquarters, this role will develop and execute integrated PR strategies that drive awareness, relevance, and earned media impact across Sony's portfolio of headphones, portable speakers, professional audio solutions, and other consumer technology products. The role will also support broader Sony Electronics brand storytelling, including communications around Sony's technology, innovations, and partnerships with major sports leagues such as the NFL and NHL.
The ideal candidate is a strategic communicator, exceptional writer, and creative thinker who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can confidently balance long-term brand priorities with day-to-day media opportunities. They have a genuine passion for technology and ability to translate complex product features and innovations into compelling stories for media, consumers, creators, and other audiences. They are highly organized, collaborative, solutions-oriented, and comfortable navigating complex organizations and working with senior stakeholders.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute comprehensive PR strategies and media relations plans for Sony Electronics, including Personal Entertainment product launches, brand storytelling, and evergreen PR programs
  • Develop PR plans aligned to business objectives, establish KPIs, monitor performance, and deliver insights and recommendations to key stakeholders
  • Write and adapt press releases, pitches, FAQs, briefing documents, media alerts, and other communications materials, coordinating reviews and approvals with internal and global stakeholders
  • Lead the day-to-day relationship with external PR agencies assigning priorities, providing strategic direction, reviewing deliverables, and holding agency partners accountable to goals and KPIs
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with top-tier technology, lifestyle, and business media to drive meaningful coverage that establishes Sony as a leading brand in consumer technology
  • Develop proactive media opportunities and creatively identify new ways to insert Sony into relevant cultural, technology, entertainment, and consumer conversations
  • Manage media review and product loan programs across Personal Entertainment products, developing strategies to drive meaningful and positive editorial coverage
  • Support PR events and experiences, including event strategy and planning, media outreach and invite development, on-site media management, and post-event reporting and analysis
  • Serve as a PR subject matter expert within the organization, proactively identifying emerging media trends, new storytelling opportunities, and innovative PR tactics to keep Sony culturally relevant
  • Stay current on evolving media consumption, AI-powered search, AEO, and LLM-driven discovery, identifying opportunities to increase Sony's visibility and authority across emerging channels

Minimum Requirements
  • Minimum of 6 years of relevant public relations experience
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing media relations strategies and managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proven ability to build relationships with media and effectively communicate complex topics to diverse audiences

Preferred Skills
  • Experience in consumer technology, lifestyle, major league sports, or brand PR
  • Experience managing external PR agencies and agency relationships
  • Strong understanding of the evolving media landscape, including AI-powered search, AEO, and LLM-driven discovery
  • Excellent project management skills and exceptional attention to detail
  • Strategic thinker who is highly proactive, creative, solutions-oriented, and comfortable taking initiative
  • Experience working within complex, matrixed organizations and collaborating cross-functionally

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $96,614 - $128,820. The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
In addition to a competitive base salary, this position is also eligible for an annual corporate bonus plan, which is based on company performance and is not guaranteed, and a comprehensive benefits package including healthcare benefits (medical, dental, and vision), paid medical leave, a 401k plan with matching company contributions, vacation time, education assistance, student loan assistance program, eighty hours of paid sick leave time annually, and up to twelve weeks paid parental leave.
