Job description


Start your healthcare career with a stable, full-time position that offers benefits and opportunities for growth.
As a Sterile Processing Technician, you play an important role in patient care by cleaning, preparing, and sterilizing the instruments used in surgical procedures. While you will not work directly with patients, your work ensures operating room staff have the tools they need to provide safe, effective treatment.
Training
  • No prior healthcare experience is required
  • Comprehensive, paid, on-the-job training is provided

As a Sterile Processing Technician, you will:
  • Clean, package, and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment
  • Inspect and assemble instruments for procedures
  • Prepare and deliver supplies to operating room staff
  • Maintain inventory and organize storage areas
  • Operate sterilization equipment, such as autoclaves and instrument washers (training provided)
  • Use computer systems to track instruments and sterilization processes

Hiring Process
During the selection process, you will participate in a virtual (pre-recorded) OnDemand interview that will need to be completed within 72 hours of the request.
During the interview:
  • A question will appear on your screen, and you will have time to consider your response
  • You may re-record your answer to each question
  • Mayo Clinic will only review your final recording

Completed interviews will be reviewed by a Mayo Clinic staff member, and you will be notified of next steps as appropriate.
Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years of age prior to start date.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods and use a full range of body motion throughout the shift.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move more than 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to use required personal protective equipment (PPE).

License or Certification
  • Certification as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) is required within 18 months of hire
  • Training is provided on the job
  • Exam costs are covered by the organization
  • Pay increase upon certification

Individuals hired to this position will be required to complete up to 2 years in this position before becoming eligible to transfer to other positions within Mayo Clinic.
