Instrumentation Technician
Location: Yuma, AZ (100% Onsite) Position Overview
We are seeking an Instrumentation Technician to support high-tempo flight test and aircraft evaluation operations. This hands-on position is responsible for maintaining, configuring, and troubleshooting airborne data acquisition and instrumentation systems that support daily flight test missions.
The selected candidate will work closely with engineering, maintenance, and flight operations teams to ensure instrumentation equipment is mission-ready, data is successfully captured, and post-flight processing requirements are met. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented technician who enjoys working in dynamic flightline environments and supporting mission-critical testing activities.
Key Responsibilities Support daily flight test operations by preparing instrumentation and data acquisition systems prior to mission execution.
Coordinate aircraft access requirements with maintenance and operations personnel.
Conduct preflight inspections of instrumentation hardware, cabling, mounting systems, and associated equipment.
Configure and load mission media, recording devices, and data collection equipment.
Verify operational status of data acquisition systems and communications interfaces prior to flight.
Support launch and recovery activities while ensuring instrumentation systems remain fully operational.
Recover mission data following flight operations and transfer collected information to processing and analysis teams.
Properly secure and power down instrumentation systems after mission completion.
Identify, document, and report instrumentation anomalies, discrepancies, and equipment failures.
Perform corrective maintenance and troubleshooting activities under engineering guidance.
Maintain accurate records of system configurations, repairs, modifications, and operational status.
Support instrumentation logistics activities including inventory management, equipment tracking, shipping, and spare parts coordination.
Assist with laboratory operations such as equipment preparation, configuration, validation testing, and troubleshooting.
Contribute to process improvements and documentation updates that enhance operational efficiency and mission readiness. Required Qualifications Active Top Secret security clearance.
Technical experience in avionics, electronics, instrumentation, aerospace systems, maintenance, or a related field.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical specifications.
Experience troubleshooting hardware, electrical systems, or integrated technical equipment.
Strong attention to detail with a disciplined approach to documentation and configuration control.
Ability to work in flightline and outdoor operational environments.
Ability to lift equipment, work around aircraft, and remain on your feet for extended periods when required.
Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with engineering, maintenance, and operations personnel. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience supporting flight test, aircraft instrumentation, telemetry, or aerospace test and evaluation programs.
Familiarity with airborne data acquisition and mission recording systems.
Experience working with military or government aircraft maintenance and logistics environments.
Knowledge of bus-based data systems and communications protocols such as MIL-STD-1553, ARINC 429, Ethernet, or similar architectures.
Experience supporting instrumentation installation, configuration, and operational readiness activities.
Understanding of maintenance tracking systems, equipment status reporting, and technical record keeping.
Ability to troubleshoot data flow, communications, and instrumentation integration issues.
