Melt Deck Operator

Position Purpose

The Melt Deck Operator is responsible for the safe operation of pouring molten steel into investment castings using manual and automatic processes including melting metal, removing slag, operating and monitoring all machinery in the department. Additionally, Melt Deck Operators will assist with foundry floor operations on an as needed basis while adhering to safety guidelines.

Attendance incentives are available up to $160 per two-week period.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manual pour โ€“ operator will lift the pot with assistance from a second operator, and carefully pour the molten steel into the casting
  • Automated pour - operator ensures automatic equipment correctly pours molten steel into the casting
  • Maintains a thorough understanding of the melting process
  • Reads traveler documents to verify which part is being poured and how much metal is used for each order
  • Adds new and recycled steel to pot to prepare for pouring operations
  • Understands and executes proper pot and launderer rebuilding
  • Operates overhead crane to move raw material
  • Wears Personal Protective Equipment on the melt deck in a constantly changing climate
  • Keeps safety a top priority and follows all instructions precisely to ensure safety of the team
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area, adhering to safety guidelines
  • Additional duties as assigned

Education and Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency
  • Melt Deck or foundry experience preferred

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work within a team setting and collaborate with team members
  • Ability to read gauges pertaining to temperature and alarms
  • Effective verbal communication skills
  • Basic math and reasoning ability
  • Ability to stand and hold 40+ pound parts and lift them to a shoulder level height
  • Must be able to work in extreme temperatures
  • Must not have any medical implants, pacemakers, internal defibrillators or metallic foreign objects within the body
