Product Engineer

Job Summary: Responsible to develop the manufacturing packet.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Open new customer files and provide DFM analysis to sales for quote. Provide cost/estimating information as needed (Materials, Labor, and Tooling).
  • Complete DFM analysis on all new releases. This includes managing resolution of all design questions/issues with customer representative as it relates to process capability. Coordinate cross-functional review of designs that require non-standard processes prior to release. Coordinate review of customer procurement documentation as needed. Provide cost estimates to Sales as requested.
  • Process and complete Engineering Product Releases (EPR’s).
  • Assign part number/bill of material structure.
  • Define most cost-effective process for manufacture of new parts.
  • Identify material and labor standards needed for system costing.
  • Complete internal drawings and artwork using computer aided design software.
  • Identify tooling requirements, and coordinate procurement. Organize internal and external resources (Tooling Services, Process Engineering, and Outside Vendors) to acquire all tooling required to meet customer volume and delivery expectations.
  • Initiate Quality Inspection Procedure based on customer procurement documentation, and application knowledge.
  • Coordinate/communicate completion of engineering release with associated process tooling lead times with Sales, Production Control, and Manufacturing.
  • Manage the evolution of products from prototype to volume production (Cradle to Grave Approach). Resolve issues related to design, and coordinate production readiness as products ramp to volume production.
  • Support outsourcing and subcontractor strategic projects (sourcing, documentation, etc.).
  • Responsible for Engineering Change Requests, and Engineering Change Orders.
  • Support and ensure applicable engineering compliance with all ISO/TS requirements, including continuous improvement projects.
  • Coordinate completion of Quality Corrective Actions as assigned.
  • Track and communicate process development opportunities/requirements based on new customer designs, and prototype knowledge.
  • Participate in Material Review Board Activities and Feasibility Review to meet Customer Specific Requirements as needed.
  • Lead Product, System, Procedure, and Methods projects as assigned.
  • Coordinate and expedite UL testing as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications / Competencies:

  • Multilayer PCB fabrication process experience and circuit layout.
  • PCB design, knowledge of laminate materials and electrical design experience preferred.
  • CAD Experience – Cadkey, AutoCAD, IGI, or related PCB design CAD/CAM software
  • Blueprint reading; GDT
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of computer software, Excel, Word, manufacturing software (ERP SYSTEM preferred), and project management.
  • Analytical - collects and researches data.
  • Design - generates creative solutions.
  • Able to problem solve.
  • Able to work on project planning.
  • Experience setting priorities.
  • Strong documentation skills.
  • Able to work in a team environment.

Education and/or Experience: Prefer Engineering degree BSIT/BSME/BSEE, from four-year college or university; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
