Job description

At Universal Metal Products, our business is custom metal stampings. And we have a talented team of creators that make it all happen. With over 80 years in the industry, we provide innovative, efficient solutions to our customers in the appliance, automotive and industrial markets.

We are seeking a dynamic, detail-oriented Tool Room Supervisor to lead our tool room operations with energy and precision. In this vital role, you will oversee the management, maintenance, and organization of tooling and machining equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety. Your expertise will drive efficiency in manufacturing processes, support engineering projects, and uphold high standards of quality. This is a working supervisory role and the hire will be involved in die builds and repairs.

Duties
  • Supervise daily tool room activities, including the allocation and maintenance of tools, fixtures, and machining equipment
  • Coordinate with manufacturing and engineering teams to ensure timely availability of tools for production runs and prototypes
  • Oversee the calibration, inspection, and repair of precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges
  • Manage inventory levels of tooling supplies, order replacements as needed, and maintain accurate records
  • Inspect completed work for conformance to blueprints, specs and standards
Skills
  • Mechanical aptitude with hands-on skills in assembly, fabrication, welding, hand tools usage, and troubleshooting machinery issues
  • Familiarity with schematic reading, math skills for precision measurements, and use of calibration instruments like micrometers and calipers
  • Ability to manage inventory systems for tooling parts while maintaining detailed records for quality assurance
Must-Haves
  • Completion of formal apprenticeship program in Tool and Die (must have Journeyman certification)
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of Tool & Die experience in a metal stamping environment.
  • Must have at least three years of supervisory experience in Tool & Die.
