Job description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Independent Contractor - Mentor role for Software Architect track based in Netherlands.
As a Software Architect Mentor, you'll use your industry expertise to help learners develop practical architecture and systems-design skills. You'll provide technical guidance throughout their learning journey, helping students overcome challenges and apply complex concepts to real-world scenarios. The role combines technical depth with teaching, communication, and community-building skills. You'll engage with learners through an online community and host a weekly live virtual session for direct support. You'll work with an international student community while staying close to emerging technologies and modern architecture practices. This is a flexible, part-time contractor opportunity designed for experienced professionals who enjoy sharing knowledge and supporting the next generation of technology talent.
- Provide high-quality technical support to learners through an online community forum.
- Answer questions related to course content and help learners overcome technical challenges and learning blockers.
- Explain complex software architecture and systems-design concepts in a practical, accessible, and engaging way.
- Host one weekly live virtual session to provide real-time technical guidance, answer questions, and support learner progress.
- Facilitate discussions and encourage learners to apply architectural principles, design patterns, and systems-engineering practices to practical scenarios.
- Help learners understand concepts such as Test-Driven Development, microservices, cloud-native architectures, serverless systems, distributed systems, caching, CDNs, and data-storage tradeoffs.
- Provide constructive guidance on architecture diagrams, system-design documentation, technical decision-making, and software development practices.
- Redirect learners to the appropriate support channels when issues fall outside the mentor's scope.
- Escalate technical or operational issues to the relevant internal team when additional support is required.
- Foster a positive, supportive, and inclusive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and engaging with peers.
- Build trust and meaningful connections with learners while maintaining a professional and student-first approach.
- Share practical industry knowledge and real-world experience to help learners connect theoretical concepts with professional software architecture.
- At least 5 years of professional industry experience, with a Master's degree or 7+ years of industry experience being advantageous.
- Strong professional expertise in software architecture, systems engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.
- Strong understanding of Test-Driven Development (TDD), including Pytest, scalable testing strategies, and structured test-suite design.
- Deep knowledge of design patterns, including creational, structural, and behavioural patterns, with practical experience applying them in production systems.
- Proven experience designing microservices, multitier, cloud-native, and serverless architectures.
- Strong understanding of caching strategies, CDN architecture, and data-storage tradeoffs.
- Ability to create, interpret, and explain architecture diagrams and system-design documentation.
- Familiarity with distributed systems and machine-learning system architectures.
- Solid grounding in systems-engineering principles, including requirements analysis, validation, and system integration.
- Experience with architectural frameworks such as TOGAF, Zachman, or SysML, together with a strong understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with experience teaching technical concepts, delivering technical talks, speaking publicly, or hosting webinars.
- Ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to learners with different levels of experience.
- Positive, approachable, and trustworthy personality, with the ability to build strong relationships and create an engaging learning environment.
- Fluency in spoken and written English.
- Ability to work independently and reliably in a remote environment.
- Flexibility and availability to undertake the role part-time as an external contractor alongside existing professional commitments.
- A genuine interest in mentoring, knowledge sharing, emerging technologies, and helping others develop their technical careers.
- Fully remote opportunity that can be performed from Romania.
- Flexible part-time independent contractor engagement designed to fit alongside an existing professional career.
- Opportunity to earn additional income from the comfort of your home.
- Competitive contractor compensation based on relevant experience, expertise, location, and engagement terms.
- Opportunity to share your professional expertise with an international community of technology learners.
- Meaningful opportunity to influence learners' technical development and help prepare them for careers in software architecture and technology.
- Exposure to cutting-edge technologies and evolving practices across software development, cloud computing, distributed systems, and architecture.
- Opportunity to strengthen your communication, teaching, presentation, and mentoring skills.
- International, diverse, and collaborative learning community.
- Flexible remote environment with a strong focus on learner support and knowledge sharing.
- Opportunity to remain connected to current technology trends while contributing your real-world industry experience.
