What is a TMS software developer?

A TMS Software Developer is a professional who specializes in developing, customizing, and maintaining Transportation Management System (TMS) software. These systems help companies plan, execute, and optimize the physical movement of goods, ensuring efficient logistics operations. TMS Software Developers work with programming languages, databases, and APIs to create solutions that automate shipping, track deliveries, and integrate with other business tools. Their role is essential for businesses that rely on complex supply chains and logistics networks.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a TMS software developer?

To thrive as a TMS Software Developer, you need strong programming skills (commonly in languages like Delphi, C#, or Java), a solid understanding of transportation management systems, and a relevant degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with TMS platforms (such as Oracle TMS or SAP TM), APIs, and software development tools, along with certifications in relevant technologies, is highly valuable. Excellent problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help developers collaborate with team members and address client requirements efficiently. These skills are essential for building robust, efficient TMS solutions that optimize logistics operations and meet business needs.

What are some common challenges TMS software developers face when integrating transportation management systems with other enterprise platforms?

TMS Software Developers often encounter challenges such as aligning data formats between the TMS and other systems like ERP or WMS, ensuring real-time data synchronization, and managing security protocols during integration. They must carefully map data fields and workflows to avoid disruptions in logistics operations. Collaboration with cross-functional teams, including IT, logistics, and third-party vendors, is crucial to resolve these challenges efficiently and maintain seamless supply chain operations.

Job description

About Corvus
Every physical good spends time in a warehouse, and every warehouse tracks their inventory. Today, nearly 100% of warehouses track their inventory manually using barcode scanners and climbing forklifts.
We're Corvus Robotics. Our fully autonomous Corvus One™ drones use computer vision & robotics to automatically track inventory, improving worker safety and increasing labor efficiency. We believe that data-driven, safe inventory management will optimize the global physical economy and improve economic prosperity for humanity.
About the role
With a de-risked product live in dozens of Global 2000 companies across the US, we're focused on improving our customer-facing software to provide even more value.
We're looking for a product-focused software leader to be a foundational contributor on our core team as we tackle questions like: What does the ideal AI-first tracking of the world's physical economy look like in the future? How can we optimize the economy to increase GDP and human prosperity?
Specifically, in this role you will:
  • Be the product owner of a customer-facing software product
  • Deliver a polished, intuitive, and reliable UX with beautiful design
  • Prioritize between execution speed, quality, and scalability while delivering features responsibly
  • Work with founders & core engineering team on developing a software product strategy
  • Travel with the CEO to customer sites to learn from user feedback

This role is hybrid or remote (US) with occasional travel to our headquarters in Mountain View, CA. Compensation range shown depends on level of experience and responsibilities, and includes material equity.
Must haves:
  • 5+ YOE in web app development, CS degree or equivalent working experience
  • Substantial experience with backend and database technologies such as NodeJS, Python, Postgres, or AWS for cloud infrastructure
  • Substantial experience with JavaScript languages and frameworks such as TypeScript and React
  • Experience owning feature development for a software product with outstanding UX
  • Experience shipping at a fast-growing startup or on a small fast-moving team
Not required, but nice to have:
  • Experience working on modern supply chain software, e.g. ERP, WMS, TMS systems, or modern shipping and freight forwarding platforms
  • Experience working with distributed configurations on hardware products
