What is a Tines operator?

Tines operators are automation professionals who use the Tines platform to build, manage, and optimize workflows for security, IT, and business operations. They automate repetitive tasks by creating stories—sequences of actions triggered by specific events or data. Tines operators often work with teams to streamline processes, improve response times, and reduce manual workloads. Their expertise helps organizations increase efficiency and reduce the risk of human error in critical workflows.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Tines automation specialist?

To thrive as a Tines automation specialist, you need a solid understanding of workflow automation, security operations, and scripting or programming fundamentals, often supported by experience in cybersecurity or IT. Familiarity with the Tines platform, REST APIs, and integrations with common security tools is typically required, along with relevant certifications like CISSP or CompTIA Security+. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication set top performers apart in this role. These skills are essential for building efficient, reliable automations that improve security processes and enable teams to respond rapidly to threats.

What are common challenges faced by professionals working as Tines automation engineers, and how can they be addressed?

Tines automation engineers often encounter challenges such as integrating multiple security and IT systems with varying APIs, maintaining automation reliability as workflows scale, and balancing security with efficiency. Staying proactive with documentation and testing helps prevent workflow failures, and collaborating closely with security analysts ensures that automations align with organizational policies. Participating in community forums and ongoing training can also help engineers keep up with best practices and new features, making it easier to troubleshoot and optimize Tines workflows.

What is the difference between Tines vs Security Analyst?

Job description

Founded in 2018 with co-headquarters in Dublin and Boston, Tines powers some of the world's most important workflows. Our intelligent workflow platform applies AI, automation, and integration with human ingenuity to drive real business results.
Tines serves a diverse range of customers, from startups to public companies, including Canva, Databricks, Elastic, Kayak, Intercom, and McKesson. As an integrator across the entire tech stack, Tines is vendor-agnostic integrating with any API-enabled service. This flexibility enables our customers to achieve their highest-priority goals faster. And because Tines is secure and private by design, it's popular with security, IT, engineering, finance, and other security-focused teams.
At Tines, we're driven by our values of Simplicity, Speed, and Soundness. We're committed to delivering exceptional customer experiences while fostering a company culture that nurtures individual curiosity, growth, and integrity. We're excited about what's next, and we're looking for others to join us on our journey.
This is a remote position, preferably based in the DMV area (Washington DC, Maryland, Virginia) or located in the Eastern Time Zone as it will require regular in person meetings in those regions.
Tines is looking for a Senior Partner Solutions Engineer to join our pre-sales team, who are crucial to our growth and winning customers. You will work with our Channel Partner team to evangelize Tines' SaaS solutions and educate existing and potential Partners on the business value that their customers can gain with intelligent workflows. You will use your product and technical knowledge to build enablement programs for our partners so that they can articulate the value of Tines and its approach to automation and integration. You will understand customers' business pains and the outcomes they want to achieve and will guide the partners to show how Tines can help their customers realize those outcomes.
What you will be doing:
  • Develop strong and deep knowledge of Tines automation and apply your knowledge to security & IT challenges that our customers face
  • Create and deliver compelling presentations to key alliance partners as you clearly communicate the value and differentiation of Tines solutions
  • Build and demo Tines with partners to show value and win sales with their customers
  • Collaborate with Sales to identify key use cases where partners can or have developed solutions using the Tines platform
  • Create and execute enablement of Tines' priority channel and technical alliance partners and support their pre-sales engineers on customer engagements
  • Be a key source of market feedback into the product organization
  • Contribute to our knowledge base by sharing key customer experiences & technical competitive insights and creating new Tines automation stories from customer and partner interactions and more
  • Support the greater Solutions Engineering team in developing metrics and refining SE operations into best practices that are shared across all SE teams

Responsibilities you will assume:
  • Provide strategic thought leadership by driving the strategic direction for Solutions Engineering within North America, aligning with overall business goals and specifically with the strategy around Partnerships
  • Mentor and provide guidance to other Solutions Engineers, fostering professional growth and skill development within the team
  • Represent Tines at industry events, conferences, and webinars, showcasing the value of our solutions and establishing Tines as a thought leader in automation
  • Work closely with product management, marketing, and engineering teams to influence product roadmap and strategy based on market and customer insights
  • Act as a senior advocate for key partners, ensuring their needs are met and their feedback is incorporated into product development
  • Identify and drive initiatives that enhance the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the sales engineering function, including process improvements and new tool adoption

What you bring with you:
  • 7+ years of experience in a pre-sales / sales engineering or technology delivery at a SaaS company with emphasis on partner engagement
  • Strong technical background and experience working with APIs and a curiosity to learn new cloud technologies
  • Working knowledge of AI-Assisted development tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, GitHub Copilot, etc.)
  • Security and/or IT industry experience
  • Public Sector industry experience
  • Strong skills and experience with uncovering customer needs
  • Experience with delivering compelling demos to customers and winning technical evaluations
  • Experience communicating with business and technical audiences to establish trust and influence key decision makers
  • A love for learning, openness to giving and receiving feedback, and a passion for making clients successful
  • Project management skills and ability to deliver customer solutions
  • Ability to craft actionable insights from complex data
  • A startup mentality with the ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment
