Job description

WK Dickson (an Ardurra company) is seeking a Stormwater Project Engineer to join our Watershed Services team in our Charleston, South Carolina office!

As advisors to municipal clients, we guide communities in developing sustainable stormwater programs. Our expertise includes watershed planning, asset management, NPDES permitting, water quality and quantity control, and capital design projects.

Primary Function:

The Project Engineer is responsible for designing, analyzing, and supporting the project manager on stormwater management projects. This role ensures compliance with environmental regulations and enhances community resilience against flooding. Under general mentorship and guidance, the Project Engineer may also provide direction to junior engineers on various projects that focus on managing runoff, preventing flooding, and protecting water quality.

Watershed and drainage improvement projects include designing urban drainage systems, mapping floodplains, and implementing erosion control measures to safeguard property and reduce environmental degradation. Additionally, this role involves enhancing water quality and controlling pollution by developing stormwater treatment systems, implementing best management practices (BMPs), and upgrading infrastructure, such as rehabilitating stormwater pipes, to modernize aging systems.

Primary Duties:

  • Design, analysis and implementation of stormwater management systems, including drainage, retention, and green infrastructure projects.
  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic modeling using software such as SWMM, HEC-RAS, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and GIS tools.
  • Support the preparation of stormwater reports, calculations, and permitting documents.
  • Conduct site evaluations and assist in environmental impact assessments.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative solutions.
  • Assist in field inspections, data collection, and site assessments.
  • Stay informed on stormwater regulations, best management practices (BMPs), and emerging trends in water resources.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's in Civil, Environmental Engineering, or related disciplines
  • Approximately 5 to 10 years of experience in stormwater engineering or related fields
  • Exposure to stormwater modeling software (HEC-RAS, SWMM, HydroCAD), AutoCAD Civil 3D, and GIS applications is a plus.
  • PE certification (or ability to obtain within one year) preferred
