Job description

Metric Engineering is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to support our Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Construction Engineering and Inspection (CEI) team in Central Florida. Experience serving as a Senior Project Engineer for the Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX) and/or the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is highly desirable. ITS experience is preferred but not required.
The ideal candidate will be a Professional Engineer registered in Florida with at least six (6) years of highway construction engineering experience, including at least five (5) years in ITS, traffic operations, roadway, and/or bridge construction. The selected candidate should have experience managing full-time Project Administrators, Contract Support Specialists, and Inspectors, and should possess most, if not all, of the qualifications and certifications listed below.
This position will be based out of Metric Engineering's Lake Mary, Florida office and will primarily support ITS and traffic operations construction engineering and inspection (CEI) projects throughout Central Florida.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
  • Direct highly complex and specialized construction engineering administration and inspection programs.
  • Interpret and monitor construction schedules, field progress, and contractor performance.
  • Manage field changes, change orders, claims, public complaints, and project documentation.
  • Review inspection Daily Work Reports, approve estimates, use FDOT PrC and Materials Acceptance Certification systems, and prepare monthly FDOT status reports.
  • Manage construction contracts and take ownership of the project completion process, from pre-construction conference through final acceptance.
  • Assign and oversee work performed by administrative staff, Project Administrators, Contract Support Specialists, and Inspectors.
  • Manage CEI project budgets, staffing needs, and time tracking requirements.
  • Participate in marketing efforts and assist with future CEI pursuits for FDOT, CFX, and local municipalities.
What You Should Bring
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Florida.
  • Minimum of six (6) years of ITS, traffic operations, and highway construction engineering experience.
  • FDOT Advanced Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Certification.
  • CTQP Final Estimates Level 1 and Level 2 certifications.
  • Ability to obtain/pass CTQP Quality Control Manager certification, if not already certified.
  • Strong leadership, communication, documentation, and construction administration skills.
