DESIGNER/ARCHITECT


Job Description – Interior Designer OR Architect looking to transition into luxury residential design.

An established, award-winning interior design firm seeks a Designer or Architect for our Berkeley, CA studio. The designer is embedded within the design team and will collaborate with senior designers, project managers, and the principal. This is an advanced intermediate or proficient level position, ideally suited for someone with 5+ years’ experience, with the potential to grow into a senior design role. The designer will act as the lead on small to mid-size projects and in a support capacity on large projects. We are looking for someone who is organized, hardworking, familiar with construction sequencing and design detailing, and self-sufficient with a passion for design.


Under the direction of the Principal, the designer/architect will guide projects through the entire design life cycle, including:

  • Ownership of all project details, including deadlines and the work of junior staff
  • Ownership of overall project hours, ensuring adherence to the budget outlined by the Design Team Manager
  • Familiarity with construction phases, contractor needs, reading architectural plans, drafting details for construction, etc.
  • Familiarity with design best practices and general code requirements
  • Extensive modeling in SketchUp
  • Measuring projects and creating existing layouts
  • Researching building materials, furniture, and finishes
  • Preparing design studies for principal and client evaluation
  • Creating schedules, sourcing furniture, and leading procurement
  • Working directly with surveyors, architects, clients, and other professionals
  • Creating construction documents, including lighting & electrical plans, mechanical and plumbing details, elevations, and sections.
  • Preparing renderings ahead of presentations
  • Presenting to the leadership team within the company, and to clients
  • Project management from conception through to completion

Additional requirements:

  • 3-5 years of experience in a design role preferred. We will also consider candidates with an architecture background.
  • Previous experience with high-end residential projects a plus
  • Knowledge of millwork, tile, stone,  and other finish materials general best practices 
  • Expert proficiency in SketchUp required

Hours:

  • This is a full-time or part-time position with potential for medical, dental, vision, and 401K benefits. All new employees are subject to a 90-day trial period.
