Job Summary:

RN Clinical Nurse

The RN Clinical Nurse works as an active part of a mixed team of licensed and unlicensed caregivers, helping ensure patients, families, and loved ones get safe, high-quality, individualized care. This role operates within a clinical setting led by Nurse Managers and other leadership, guided by Wellstar's Shared Governance Model. Practice is grounded in the Wellstar Professional Practice Model along with evidence-based methods and research, with RN competencies built from these frameworks and Wellstar's core values.

All RN Clinical Nurses must be licensed, stay current on their practice, and follow the standards set out in Georgia's Professional Nurse Practice Act, along with the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics from the American Nurses Association. As part of the patient services team, nurses are expected to advocate for patients while following system policies and contributing to service excellence.

Core Responsibilities

Clinical Excellence and Outcomes

  • Carries out the full nursing process â€" assessing, diagnosing, identifying outcomes, planning, implementing, and evaluating â€" grounded in evidence-based practice and critical thinking, ensuring care is tailored to each patient through strong care partnerships
  • Delivers patient-centered care that accounts for population-specific factors (age, gender, condition, etc.) with sensitivity to cultural differences
  • Partners consistently with patients and their loved ones through methods suited to the situation â€" bedside shift reports, interdisciplinary rounds, timely patient education â€" keeping them informed and centering their goals in the care plan
  • Applies current clinical practice standards

Collaboration and Teamwork

  • Coordinates safe, well-documented patient care that supports the professional care model, including inclusive interdisciplinary communication (rounds, case reviews), timely documentation, and a respectful clinical environment
  • Works in a fiscally responsible way that supports recruiting and retaining healthcare team members
  • Engages in and supports performance improvement efforts involving all stakeholders and research, including leading such initiatives and participating in shared governance across the system

Professional Growth

  • Completes all required competency assessments and mandatory/population-specific training
  • Mentors or precepts other nurses, staff, or students to help build a strong current and future workforce, modeling professional nursing practice and a healthy work environment

Evidence-Based Practice and Research

  • Promotes evidence-based practice, nursing research, and performance improvement, including participating in value analysis when evaluating patient care products
  • Follows all organizational policies, procedures, and clinical standards, including legal, regulatory, and accreditation requirements such as TJC Patient Safety Goals and Wellstar's safety absolutes
  • Contributes to data collection, raises relevant clinical questions, and consults appropriate experts and evidence to address practice issues

Resource Management

  • Plans proactively for patient care across the full care continuum
  • Helps develop protocols and procedures, whether assigned or self-initiated, working with care managers and others to improve outcomes (e.g., reducing readmissions, avoidable days, adverse events)
  • Supports efficient use of staff and material resources
  • Performs other assigned duties and follows all Wellstar policies and code of conduct

Minimum Education Required
Associate's degree, nursing diploma, or Bachelor's in Nursing (BSN preferred)

Required Licenses/Certifications (needed at hire unless noted otherwise)

  • RN license (single state) or multi-state Compact RN license
  • BLS certification (Basic Life Support, American Red Cross BLS, or BLS Instructor)

Direct patient care experience
