Job description

Position Title: Retail Supervisor

Department: Operations
Reports To: Assistant Store Manager
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position Purpose and Objectives

America's Thrift Stores is seeking an energetic, customer-focused Retail Supervisor to lead the day-to-day operations of the sales floor and front-end team. This position is ideal for an experienced retail leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys multitasking, and is passionate about delivering exceptional service to customers and donors.

The Retail Supervisor is responsible for driving operational excellence by coaching and developing team members, ensuring company standards are consistently met, and creating a clean, organized, and welcoming shopping experience. This is a highly active leadership role that requires the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities while maintaining a positive attitude and strong attention to detail.

Bilingual (English/Spanish) communication skills are preferred to effectively support our team members, customers, and donors. 

To support store operations, this position requires flexibility to work a rotating schedule, including mornings, mid-shifts, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Retail Supervisors are expected to lead by example and consistently demonstrate America's Thrift Stores' Core Values through exceptional customer service, accountability, teamwork, and operational excellence.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise daily front-end and retail floor operations.
  • Coach, train, and develop team members through regular observation, feedback, and recognition.
  • Assist with recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and training new team members.
  • Schedule associates according to business needs while maintaining productivity standards.
  • Perform all Retail Team Member responsibilities as needed.
  • Deliver exceptional customer and donor service by resolving questions, concerns, and issues professionally.
  • Maintain high standards for merchandise presentation, pricing accuracy, cleanliness, organization, and shop-ability.
  • Create visually appealing merchandise displays that drive sales.
  • Supervise cash handling procedures, register operations, deposits, and morning accounting functions.
  • Monitor inventory levels and proactively address merchandise and supply needs.
  • Support the execution of sales promotions, seasonal merchandising, and company initiatives.
  • Promote a positive, respectful, and inclusive work environment built on accountability and teamwork.
  • Maintain open communication with leadership and team members while addressing performance opportunities promptly.
  • Protect company assets by following cash handling, loss prevention, and security procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, OSHA standards, and safety procedures.
  • Serve as Manager on Duty when assigned and oversee daily store operations in the absence of the Assistant Store Manager.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support overall store success.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is required.
  • Minimum of two years of retail leadership experience as a Supervisor, Team Lead, or Key Holder.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and develop high-performing teams.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills with a passion for creating outstanding customer experiences.
  • Strong multitasking and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize competing responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfortable working in an active role that requires frequent movement throughout the store.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to observe performance, provide coaching, and hold team members accountable.
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and leadership abilities.
  • Basic computer proficiency and mathematical skills.
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to successfully complete a background check, motor vehicle check, and drug screen.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including mornings, mid-shifts, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
