Position Overview

Kiewit Industrial & Water Engineering (KIWE) is seeking a highly motivated Electrical Engineer to support our rapidly growing Data Center market. This role will focus on design management and oversight of third-party engineering firms supporting hyperscale and mission critical facilities.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong technical foundation in electrical systems design for data centers, along with demonstrated experience managing engineering partners across large, complex programs (up to 1GW scale). This individual will play a critical role in ensuring engineering quality, consistency, and alignment with Kiewit project delivery standards.

Travel required to project sites as needed

Responsibilities
  • Act as the owner's engineer / design integrator, overseeing third-party electrical engineering partners
  • Review and coordinate electrical power distribution systems including: medium and low-voltage systems and substations, switchgear, UPS systems, and backup generation
  • Provide technical guidance and QA/QC oversight of external engineering deliverables
  • Interface with construction, commissioning, and project management teams to ensure design alignment with execution
  • Lead coordination across disciplines (mechanical, controls, civil, structural) to support fully integrated facility designs
  • Support standardization of design approaches across multiple data center campuses/programs
  • Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and constructability evaluations
  • Assist in development of design criteria, specifications, and owner requirements
  • Support project execution from early design through commissioning and turnover
Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • 10+ years of relevant electrical engineering experience
  • 3+ years of experience in the Data Center / Mission Critical market
  • Demonstrated experience managing or coordinating third-party engineering firms
  • Experience supporting large-scale programs (ideally 1GW campus-level development)

Strong knowledge of:

  • Power distribution design
  • Redundant electrical systems (2N, N+1 configurations)
  • Codes and standards (NEC, IEEE, etc.)
  • Ability to work across multiple projects in a fast-paced, high-growth environment

Preferred:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Experience supporting EPC or design-build project delivery
  • Exposure to commissioning processes or system turnover
  • Familiarity with hyperscale data center clients and standards.

Base Compensation: $100,000/yr - $150,000/yr
