  • Valid occupational therapist or physical therapist license
  • Signed copy of your most recent employment evaluation or occupational/physical therapist internship evaluation (if recent or current graduate)
  • Unofficial transcripts
  • VA Child Abuse Recognition & Intervention Training Certificate
  • Emergency First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) (including a hands on CPR skills practice), and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training certification
  • Dyslexia Awareness Training

GENERAL PURPOSE
This position performs difficult professional work identifying and treating at risk students in order to minimize the impact of their limitations on their educational and life pursuits. Work is performed under general supervision.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Evaluates special needs of students and designs and implements appropriate
  • Consults with classroom teachers, parents, and school personnel regarding special needs students.
  • Evaluates children's needs, identifying those requiring therapy services.
  • Prepares IEPs (Individualized Education Program), schedules, and coordinates services and staff.
  • Chooses activities to develop any of the following skills: gross motor, fine motor, perceptual, visual motor, sensory system integration, positioning, feeding, range of motion, muscle tone, daily living, etc..
  • Coordinates students' programs to maximize learning.
  • Assists with modification of school tasks to accommodate the needs of students.
  • Provides direct student instruction as needed.
  • Reviews IEPs, evaluation, assessment, and progress reports.
  • Maintains specified records on each student referred, evaluated and/or recommended for on-going treatment.
  • Orders appropriate equipment for school treatment areas.
  • Performs other related duties as required/assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • At least three years of experience as an occupational therapist preferred.
  • Possession of or ability to acquire appropriate license(s), certificate(s), and/or endorsement(s) for position as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and School Board.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of specialty area.
  • Knowledge of the principles and methodology of providing effective therapy for special needs students.
  • Knowledge of school division rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Skill in delivering articulate oral presentations and written reports.
  • Ability to establish and maintain standards of behavior.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff, students, and parents.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Work environment is primarily inside, where the noise and temperature levels are moderate.
  • The worker may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
  • This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Work requires balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, and feeling; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arms length, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities
